Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Believe me Wendy, I was very frustrated with this whole issue and let it be known in the projector social group. Other people didn't seem to care about it though so I basically gave up posting about it and took the matter into my own hands. Tried to get an answer as you have but the responses were the same as you just saw which was essentially useless.
Linna doesn't seem to understand that the sound activated feature as is just doesn't work for 99% of owners as advertised due to the extremely poor sensitivity of the microphone/board setup. If it's supposed to be more sensitive than it is then something is wrong with our units.
Miss Linna, what we need an answer to is what dB level (how loud the sound is) is required to activate the sound activated function. Even with our units set on level 9 sensitivity sound has to be EXTREMELY loud (to the point of so loud it hurts your ears) for any kind of sound activation! We ARE setting the level correctly. Can we please get an answer to this.
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Looks like it's pretty much the same as the PD2. Cranked the sensitivity up to 9 and you have to tap the case near the mic hole to get any reaction. Although I turned the volume all the way up on my phone and played music with the speaker hole and mic hole touching and got it to work somewhat.
The mic is just soldered onto a PCB about .25 inches away from the mic hole. If I can find a really small preamp that runs off 12vdc....
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
My 3D's sensitivity is just about exactly the same as Coherent's.
It will respond with the sensitivity setting at #9, and the projector nearly touching the speaker.
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
I may have gotten lucky. Or maybe since mine was bought at a different time. I can put my phone behind the unit and turn the sensitivity to 5 and still get response.. My phone volume is up but that's far from having to tap on it
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Yours sounds WAY more sensitive than anyone elses T by many factors. Just can't believe that the sensitivity of the rest of our units were designed this way.
K, I just did some more testing and Wendy is absolutely correct about additional patterns. You get a boat load of new patterns in sound activation mode and if you get everything set right it goes along pretty well with the music. VERY cool effects that you will have a hard time turning off. Noticed that the small heart pattern comes up some times in SoN mode.
I took another look at my setup and what I plug into the AUX is a standard stereo mini jack (1/8") and use an inline volume control to control the level into the aux while having the sensitivity set to 1. This allows you to "Y" off your source (such as an ipod) to also go to your sound system loud enough for the signal to work normal with your stereo. If needed I'll take a pic of what I'm talking about.
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Man these messages about not all of the modules being analog really worries me.. I have an email from LK stating there is two days worth of testing being done on my unit, so I really hope I have analog modules.
As I have no DAC/software is there any way I can test to find out?
This is feeling dodgier by the second. No wonder they were so cheap...
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
I've also tested mine in sound activated mode and seen the 3D heart now YAY, also seen a load of new effects in the other 4 modes just a shame that the sound activated mode doesn't respond to music.
I've ordered myself a 3.5mm stereo jack chassis socket for my PD2 and will be installing it next week when it arrives. Is there anything else I need to add or will just piggybacking the wires to the back pins of the mic be fine?
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Just what I've stated above (inline volume control and 1/8" stereo splitter and whatever you need to connect back to your stereo equipment from the splitter. What's the point of sending music to the unit if you can't hear it yourself

Lucky indeed! That's quite responsive if you can trigger it from a phone speaker! This is why I suspect we may have some circuit board component whose value is mistakenly off by 10x or 100x, or the mic impedance is not correct. Wish we had some schematics.
Tmack, you give me hope that this is solvable, if only LaserKing techs can investigate and tell us what to change. If you got a reasonably responsive unit, we should be able to alter some component and get the same.
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Ok thanks, I ordered a splitter with my jack socket the other day but didn't think about adding a inline volume control, sounds good I will order one of these too
I will try and get some photos up of mine when I've done the mod and take a video of the improved results.
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Hey I'm glad I'm giving hope haha. I was playing around with it today just out of curiosity after going through this thread again. At full volume on my phone speakers I can actually get it the pattern to move on the strong beats at level 4 of the sensitivity. This is of course with the phone leaning on the unit. When I turn it to 7 it responded to the vocals , and 9 was barley breaking the pattern. It would only break when you'd hear a clear pause in the song. Mine was Lens 3d. Maybe the batch he got when purchasing mine was assembled slightly different then the ones that went out in the group buy.
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Honestly I suspect the board needs to be changed out or firmware updated. Unfortunately I got no where with the issue when I had gotten mine in the last GB. I even sent her a couple messages and recieved no reply.
Tmack's unit is the first one I've heard of that appears to work significantly better.
Do you have a stereo you can play music on Tmack ora t least a radio to see how well it picks up with the sound at least a few feet away from a speaker?
Re: SHIPPING!!& DELIVERY ASAP UPDATE!!Laserprojector group buy # 4 Time to send PAYM
Today I tried to use the Sound Activated mode for the first time. I was able to have one of my JBL Monster computer speakers (the sub woofer is under the computer desk) about a foot away from the mic and the mic setting on S9. I used my own musical keyboards and virtual synthesizer software (Arturia Modular Moog and GForce Mellotron) to see how the LK-PD2 would work. The output volume of my computer was set to approx. 8 out of 10, and the same with the volume settings on the virtual synths, so it was loud, but not crazy loud. Very pure sound. I used the Moogs sequencer to play a nice preprogrammed bassy sequence. The PD2 came on every time and when I stopped, it shut off in around 5 or 6 seconds. When using only the mellotron program (violins and choir), it would not come on unless a held a chord at lower frequencies, and then only sometimes. I did take some short videos of these experiments with my iphone, but need to figure out how to post video here. They are 1080P files that need to be resized. When I get it together I will post a clip or two. I am going to post a few pics of the speaker proximity to the PJ. I think even if I set the sensitivity it S7 or 8 it still would have worked.
As far as the what the laser PJ projected based on the music, it was very good. When I started I used only the Moog and as soon as I started the sequence, the PD2 came right on. When I added the Mellotron program to add some sonic color, there was no change of patterns from the PD2. Also, low notes to high notes, soft to loud, making the mellotron louder than the Moog, etc, the laser pattern did not change based on that, but seems like it had a pre determined program to follow as opposed to changing patterns based on tempos, volume, etc. In fairness there was no drums for a beat, but the sequence I used had a driving bass line and should have triggered pattern changes based on what the sensor heard. I will play with it some more in the weeks to come. I still have test the Sound Activated mode on my Casa CTL-HM and then I will have a comparison.
