Daguin - Sorry if I wasn't more clear, I was suggesting that this "no responding to treads" rule be applied to the "private sales". I definitely see the purpose in allowing responses to the regular sellers' tread. I'm more annoyed at these useless posts in the private sales treads. I'm on forums that are much larger than LPF and they have the "no responding through treads" rule implimented. IMO, it's a much easier read than sifting through a bunch of useless responses to find the seller's responses.

The same reasoning applies to private sales. If only one item is offered then it may work with no replies. However, how about when it is something like Milos' just did (and others have done before) or like my "modules" sale. Would we be temporarily moved onto the "pro shop"?

Peace,
dave

hey guys, this is def. a cool idea which we can implement

will try and get this set up in next 24hrs

to start should i create Laser Pro Shop board, and move all the threads styropyro posted in post #13 to the new board?

No. The other way around. The "pro's" get a board with just the "ongoing" sales threads. The B/S/T board then is used only by members with one off or temporary sales threads.

For example Jayrob would be in the "Pro Shop" board and I would be in the B/S/T board.

If I decided to keep my modules available all the time (in stock), then I would move to the "Pro Shop."

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** oh yeah -- my vote. I like the idea of a pro shop board.

That's what I mean, daguin. But yeah, Pro shop is a better name. I meant one thread for continual sales such as jayrob's and the original B/S/T thread for people who want to sell single products. Sorry for misunderstanding. And yeah, since I know what styropyro said now, I have to say that the Pro shop idea is very smart :)

Thanks for the congrats on 4k guys! :D

It's good to see that this is working out, but should we consider making a separate "block" for the BST sections and maybe the Deals section? This might make the front page look a little more organized.

Sounds good!

I say yes. Styroawesome, thanks for bringing up the "too many stickies" topic again. What happened in the end with the "Have 100 posts before you can start selling on the BST section"?

I like the idea too ..... not only this can help in solving a bit of "mess" that actually is in the trade sections, but also give to the members a better idea about who sell continuously and who sell occasionally ..... and no, i don't mean about older or more repped users, i mean, so any user can know immediately if a sale thread is an occasional offer, without (or with very few) possibility to find it or another similar from the same seller in future, or if is a continued, or at least regular, business, that you can probably regularly find also in future, when you need it again.

The only question may be how regulate the new section, for avoid that occasional sales threads goes there (not necessarily intentionally or with bad intent, with 8000 and more users, errors can happens :p) ..... free posting, with c0ld occasional (or on-report) supervision, or post-on-request, sending a PM to him ?

We have also to keep in mind that admin a board alone is not an easy work, and that, probably (;)), he have also an offline life, so both the solutions cannot be "immediate use" ..... imho, the first solution (free posting) is a bit more immediate, it require that if an occasional sale post is found, it become reported and then c0ld shift it in the other section, but the maximum that can happen is that for some hours you have a post in the wrong place ..... the second, post-on-demand, is probably a bit more complex, cause you have to ask c0ld each time that you want to open a new thread, then he have to authorize it, and can happen that, being in different timezones, the peoples cannot contact immediately, and so on (other than this, probably it involve more work for c0ld, cause as far as i know, the only way for not left all open posts, is to reserve this to admin, and in this way, he have to open each new thread personally :p)

What do you think ?

HIMLM9... just brought up another small problem with New Members
that come here only to sell their ware's but do not contribute
more than that to the Forum community...

I think it would be a good idea as mentioned above to have at least
a certain number of posts (a few hundred) before even being able to
post there...

For example... it took Susie from O-Like quite a while and many posts
to be accepted as a reputable seller...

@Flaminpyro...

That's why I suggested Laser Pro Shop...
You know... for the noobs that think they can buy golf clubs on the Forum....:crackup::crackup:

You're right, i had not thought about this, too ..... maybe c0ld can set the new section with a minimum number of posts for post inside it, i'm not sure cause don't know all the VB script options, but i think it can be done for a whole section.

hey guys , there is currently no way to make it so access to Laser Pro Shop is based on number of posts someone has. there is a vbulletin modification but dont trust it

would it make sense to have password access to the new board (one shared password) instead? members with over X posts could be given the PW. The description of the board could say PM Jayrob, daguin, or styropyro,c0ldshadow / etc for password or something

another option (maybe better)...

i can make it so all new threads require my approval (And since this would mainly be stickies by veterans, prob wouldnt be very many new threads that it wouldnt be too overwhelming).. perhaps it could say in the description you need 200 posts for thread to be approved, unless other members agree by Vote in another section... with this method members could still reply to threads, but not post new ones in this Laser Pro Forum without approval

or we could combine the password idea with the one above... but maybe just the 2nd option is best?

idk what are your thoughts guys?

The second option is basically what i meant speaking about your permission for post, i was thinking that it require too much work for you , but if it can be done in semi-auto (like, as example, you open the thread, and get a message that say "your post is waiting admin approval" or something similar), then when you approve it, it become visible, otherwise not ..... if VB have an option for this, it can also take away some work from you (mean, you don't have to open PM, reply with permission code with another PM, and so on, just scan and approve or not the waiting threads)

But better see what the direct interested think, about that ..... after all, i don't have any sale thread :)

I think a better idea would be to let it be open to everyone, if we make it password protected it will kill sales of the sellers! There have been sellers under 200 posts with a good product, I think it will be much easier on you to let it be open to everybody and have you delete the occasional bad thread. A sellers reputation will take care of itself in the pro shop.

^ styropyro, i think that, basically, is the same thing that c0ld mean, with the second option (correct me if i understood wrong ;)) ..... like, left the section open for anyone, but set it in the way that, for reply to an existing post, you can do it freely, where instead for open a new thread, you require that admin approve the new thread, before it become visible to all ..... so, if you want to open a new thread, you need his approvation, but if you only want to reply to a seller, you can do that freely in any already-opened threads.

And about the observation of lasersbee, that is right also that one, it can be set also on low limits, like 50 posts, or also not set to any number of post count, in this way, cause if someone try to open there a wrong or inappropriate thread, it become automatically deleted when c0ld don't give the approvation.

This way, no need to close the section with a pw.

Ofcourse, need to see what also the direct interested (the peoples that have permanent selling threads) think, about that, and overall, what c0ld himself think about it, cause after all, is he that have to do the work, after :p

Hey c0ld...

like you started above... there are not hundreds of Laser Pro Shop threads
to add... and only once in while will you be needed to approve or disapprove
a new Sales thread... especially if the requirements to get into the Laser Pro
Shop section are clearly indicated...

I like the idea to keep the minimum posts to at least 200..
The sellers with good products and low post counts can still post in the regular
B/S/T section until they get their minimum 200 posts..
