Oh, I agree with your thought process. I just don't like banning except as a last resort. I neg repped him for this. But not because I think he intentionally scammed cilegray, but I think this whole thread is a disaster. He conducted one of the worst sales I have personally seen on here.
But I don't like excessive bannings and I don't think he should be denied the ability to access the forums or ask questions and post here because of that.
In my optimistic judgement, I think he just ran a sloppy sale and it bit him in the butt. I could be wrong, but I'd rather err on the safe side than ban him when cilegray got his money back. I do admit it was a big pain in the butt for cilegray though.
I've been here a bit longer and have seen sellers "do their thing".
We've tried the "its his first offense, just don't let him sell on the
forum" routine a few times. It turned out the "seller" just conducted
business in PMs and E-Mail and always aimed at the Noobs.
As has been mentioned many times.. Mods do not have access
to member's PMs or E-Mails
The only way to nip that in the bud and protect the rest of the
Forum community is to Ban the offending "seller".
If I as a seller knew of a problem with an item I sold to a member
I would explain the issue and try to put the member at ease...
Unless I had something to hide I wouldn't scurry under a rock to
avoid the issue with that member.
Maybe there are some other reasons for the non response...:undecided:
BTW...It should be noted that he was last on line
before Post #174..
