Re: 12x sled Feeler !!!!! $40.00
I think this is the right answer, the sleds are from 12xDVD burners that can also read Blu-Ray. But also notice Spyder, that is a 5x Blu-Ray READER, not a 5x WRITER. The drives from geeks.com that had the PHRs where 4x readers, if that gives any indication of what might be in that drive.
But anyway, that's my 2 cents, that there's misinformation here (intentional or unintentional, I have no idea and I'm not implying any foul play). I think these sleds are for drives that can burn DVDs at 12x but only READ Blu-Rays, not burn them, or only burn them at a lower rate. Remember there is at least 1 language barrier here, and maybe more language barriers since these are often parts made for Japanese and Korean companies by Chinese manufacturers, and any number of other combinations of companies from different countries. And people working for these companies do not always have technical skills or training to know the differences with 12x DVD writer, 12x Blu-Ray writer, and the differences between writers and readers.
But please everyone, prove me wrong, I'd LOVE to be wrong here.
The trapezoid beam shaping optic is used in BR burning only, not readers
Your right, I never thought about that.
I know its to close to call but I'm gonna call it anyway. I do believe these are in fact 12x blu-ray writers but I also believe there probably prototypes of some sort. Technology is very fast moving and I would not at all be surprised if they are what we think they are.
Just a couple of my pennies.

First of all, this technology was only ANNOUNCED last month.
They could not possibly develop these that fast, and even if they did, they would not be selling these to people.
There is no commercial 12x BR Writer, so why would they start selling the sleds?
BTW, this is what it is:

But... It IS a 5x BR, after all
