Sale thread/ Hosts/Heat Sinks/Focus adapters/lasers

Hi GSS,
That diode was binned the best out of 4 or 5 i tested and the lowest was 2100 mW not bad for these M140/s, . And the purple host stands out all those Hard Anodized colors of the 501B's are vivid and don't interfere with the grounding. Thats what i like about Anodizing anti protects the softer Aluminum. Glad you like it GSS..

I’m in. Took our first excursion out into the desert last night, maybe five miles. Not far, but enough to say hello to the moon with a n465 n450 and a m140. No pictures as we we’re just driving around. :)

Hi BM, Glad to see your settled in your new hacienda , some desert pics would be nice with a few coyote in the back ground but i would settle for a desert turtle or a road runner..

Rich:)

Nice heat sink Rich.

Say, you wouldn't have any of the skyray flashlights to hold a pair of 18350's or 16340's with a nice thick heat sink would you ?

If not do you have anything like that ? I have a pile of potentials but I like the look of the skyray or something different.

If its the skyray I also have from Lifetime, mine has the side button and is also purple.
They sure do hold a nice size sink and again I like that side button a little better..
Red what are planning to put in it?

I picked up a NDG7475 at auction, I wanted to do a fairly compact build for short duration use, the skyray can hold a couple inches of ....what is it, about 1 inch wide/25mm wide heat sink with a high drain pair of 18350 flat top IMR cells and a 1.8a X drive, it should be pocket friendly yet have enough heat reservoir to run for pointer duty.

There's limited use for super bright pointers, my burners need a lot of bulk to serve as a heat reservoir and provide surface area for air contact dissipation, yet still cant do 100% duty cycle, not when the diode is overdriven as we like them to be.

So as this will be for short duty pointing, likely a foggy night special, it just doesn't need to be all that bulky even though @ 1.8a and 4.7v it will take in 8.5 watts to output 1 watt so 7.5 watts of waste heat, compared to a 44 diode that takes in 4.5a at 5v yet puts out 7w so it has 11w of waste heat, not counting the drivers 5% the 1w greenie is not very efficient, this is why data projectors use big blues to pump phosphor....but the point is it will produce roughly 2/3 the waste heat of a 44 so....a short duty cycle is in the price for going semi compact, but the cells also lend to that end with the x-drive's cut off being what ? 6.8v

Should be a hot little super bright pointer, I do like the look of the skyray, I have a bdr-209 in one that I like a lot.

Hi
GSS I think Red is describing the rear switch Sky Ray and it also holds 2x 18350’s , his will be 2 “ long with a copper core at 1-3/4 deep to keep that 200.00 diode comfortable. And a contact board pocket bored in for the board with focus adapter to

Rich:)

Oh ok:o, I don't have it as if you remember it was a gift to my brother inlaw, but is it basicly the same?
I'm going to find some pic's of it as even though it has a A140 at 1.8A the heatsink you made was a copper core one also and big and long:)

Hi GSS
Yes I remember that one clearly that’s a nice build thinking about making another in time.

Rich:)

The purple 501B M140 made it safe and sound.:)
Christened it by lighting a cigg:can:
Loving it and really need to get a foam lined box just for my rainbow colored collection of 501's all from you:eg:

I will post some build pics later, but as my diode is coming from China and it could still be a week or two away, here's a few pics Rich sent me of this Great looking skyray.

If you don't mind my asking, what did you end up paying for that NDG7475 at auction, RedCowboy? And are you sure it is the true 1 watt diode, or could it be a 700 being sold as the higher power diode?

I won it at auction for 103.50, and another just like it sold for 108.50, looks like Techhood was getting a jump on income tax refund bidding and the sale ended late night at a time when diode auctions had not been happening for a while. ( at least not the big ones )

So I scored a bargain, just so long as it's not DOA I will be ok.

I am going to run it at 1.8a just to be safe, I have an 1.8a X drive I bought from DTR that is brand new, that should be safe even if it turns out to be a NDG700 and give me about a watt either way.

On DTR's page 1.8a drives a 7475 at 1187mw and a NDG700 at 1026mw

I'd be interested in finding out which it turns out to be. Have you seen any more auctions like the one you won? :thanks:
