What should be done with the reputation system?

This statement doesn't even make sense. I explained 3-4 times now the reason why I left a the neg rep. You're perpetuating the drama by asking for a different answer. It's not coming.

You missed the point entirely. Again. Yes, I do have the right. Cyparagon had the right, Alaskan had the right, even the trolls VG, and others HAD THE RIGHT.

Which way would that be? Repeatedly offering a factual response with occasional bits of humor. (With humor and hyperbole only directed to members who I thought would understand it as humor, and they did.)

The drama has started because of people complaining about getting neg reps. They are imaginary internet points - get over it. If you think it was unfair then contact one of the mods and have them remove it - let them decide if it was justified or not, they are after all the ones who enforce the rules. Infinitus is well within his rights to leave you a negative rep, and you are well within your rights to return it. Is it bad etiquette? Sure! But you're both free to do it.

At this point you are both continuing the drama. One or both of you need to step up and give it a break. Let the polls do the talking.

Seriously, it's like watching a pair of kids bicker over trivial nonsense.

How about removing the inappropriate neg reps on Dread from IE and daichi (both of you are now on my shit list, don't expect to be friends with me).

IN THIS OF ALL THREADS NO ONE HAS ANY BUSINESS PASSING OUT NEG REP TO SOMEONE THAT DISAGREES WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hold on here a minute - I didn't pass out a neg rep because Dread disagreed with me, I passed it out for continuing the same drama he was complaining about, the comment I left with said rep makes that clear. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me.


Have the mods remove it, if they feel it was inappropriate then that's fine, they are the ones who decide these things - as I've said before - I'm not going to get worked up over internet points. Makes no difference to me at the end of the day.

I was in favor of tweaking the system to something in between what it was and what it is now, but now I think we should either keep the new system or remove it.

I didn't neg rep him for disagreeing. If you bothered to climb out of a wine bottle you might have noticed that in the neg rep line, or the 3-4 follow up posts.

The question we may need to address is what constitutes an appropriate rep (positive or negative) rather than just tweaking or reverting an older system.

To me rep is another way to express my opinion, and provide feedback. Any rep is valid so long as it's not left simply as an insult out of spite.

To you, it seems, any rep that disagrees with your opinion is not valid, and an attack on character.

As for your "shit-list" come on, what is this, recess at kindergarten? Grow up.

IE already responded to this - but I'll respond too. I actually tried to give IE a negative rep for the same reason, however, the system wouldn't let me, I need to "spread some around" before I can leave another. :rolleyes:

Also, there's no need for using aggressive or nasty language, how about we keep this discussion polite and civil, eh? ;)

Solutions to the problem:

1.)Return to the old system - stop complaining.
2.)Keep this system - stop complaining.
3.)Tweak this system - stop complaining.
4.)Remove the system entirely, go with Simon's suggestion, add some sort of "Reliable Seller/Buyer" tag to people's accounts. That way people know they are dealing with someone reputable when buying/selling items on the forum.
5.) Change the rules - negative reps can only be used when someone breaks the rules - either by spamming, scamming, trolling, use of bad language, that kind of thing. This option could be used with any of the first three options too.

Anyone want to add any other options?

Going by the current vote count we should go with option 1. That seems to be what the community wants, that said, maybe a recount is in order?

The unspoken rule is you're only allowed to give negative reputation if the guy is eating babies, clubbing seals, wearing crocs, or leading a genocide. :can:

Also, Alan - if we're going to be picky about some perceived breach of forum etiquette then perhaps you should be making more of an effort to adhere to said etiquette yourself. :whistle:

See, we can all pick at each other about trivial violations and problems all day. That won't get anyone anywhere. How about we stop arguing and agree to disagree. Wouldn't that solve the issue? Let the thread continue on - see what the vote says after a few more days and go with whatever has the highest vote count. After that - everyone can stop complaining about the rep system.

Is passing out neg rep to those on the other side who voice their opinion polite and civil? In this thread especially, that should not be happening.

That is not a majority, not enough have voted anyway to tell what the community wants.
