Red Single Mode Diode?

I'm looking for a single mode red diode.

The diodes I've looked at have been:

LPC-826, LPC-836 at 650nm

and

Opnext HL6385DG 150mW at 642nm

and

Mits 635nm at 110mW and 180mW

I've been waiting for the 3.8mm red diode group buy but that isn't going too well atm. I want the greatest visual brightness for the diode and I heard lower wavelengths of red are more visible. However, I want to keep the beam profile good so Mits 300mW and 500mW multimode won't work. I want to combine the red with ~200mW of 532 green and I think the ratio between 650nm red to 532nm green is 6:1 or something so I'd need ~1W of red to equal the green. Lower power is required for lower wavelength reds like the 635nm and 642nm.

So, does anyone know what's the best diode for me? If you know any other diodes please suggest it.

Thanks in advance! :thanks:

I think 180mW of 638nm will be brighter than 400mW of 660nm. Don't take my word for it though. You could always use two diodes and a PBS if you need more power.

When TEC cooled, FOR SURE :)

Ok I think I'll go with the mits 180mW. Sounds like the best one here. It seems like the 110mW are more popular thought because I can't find the ML520G55 180mW version :o Does anyone know who sells them?

People, research centres / univercities, buying from Thorlabs don´t really care about the prices. But they have some interesting stuff and top notch service.

Definitely. Even 110 mW of 638 will look brighter than 400 mW of 660.

Considering prices, it may be cheaper to get 2 110 mW diodes plus a PBS cube instead of a single 180 mW diode.. if its worth the time and effort you'll spend on setting that up and aligning it.

Well....You make no mention of the final application....just combining Red + Green....

You dismiss the Mitsui 300 / 500 as having too fat a beam....well ...if you use NO corrective optics...it is too divergent....with corrective optics....it is perfect....for your box like thing....lol

The thing is, the Mits 300/500 beam just scares me. It's like half a meter wide at 10m or more. I'm not sure if I can correct it properly.
