Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... cheap!!

Re: Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... che

I have seen that.. it's definitely not a bad price for a true 100mW Nichia.. Buying one directly from Nichia costs close to $2000 (of course that's mostly due to the fact that so few are being purchased..) It's definitely worth $40 just having the datasheet.

Re: Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... che

Did you notice that the datasheet is the same as the o-like 120mW nichia?

I think they are the same diodes. If you look at the o-like, most of the data sheet parameters are based on 100mW power, but says a max of 120, which is the same as the data sheet at qualifound. I've e-mailed them to ask if they are in stock and I'll pick a couple up.

Re: Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... che

^I noticed that, and to be honest with you I've also noticed some similarities between the qualifound and o-like websites in general.. wonder what's up with that? O-like's got some competition maybe? If so, it's nice that the Chinese suppliers are starting to really see a viable market in hobbyist lasers..

If they are the same as the o-like diodes I'll definitely pick a few up, and I'm sure others will also. All the evidence does seem to suggest that they are the same..

that looks great how much can those diode be pushed ?

That's a great question! Why don't you buy a couple and let us know? Okay! Thanks so much, looking forward to hearing your results!

(Nobody knows, because nobody has bought one yet, they are new, but you're welcome to be the first to try them out.)

Re: Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... che

Has anyone noticed that the O-Like site and the Qualifound Site offer
essentially the same products... ::)

I read somewhere (on LPF) recently.. that a member was driving an O-Like
450nm LD (looks like the same specs) at 180mA and it died not long after... :-?

^I read your review. It's very well done. I remember you having a thread in which you were complaining about losing diodes after just a short time.. In your review of the Nichia diodes, it seems that you also lost that one in just a few minutes.. If I may ask, what type of driver are you using?

If hadn't seen the name of the site I would have thought it was O-like...

Here is a review that I made for this diode. :)

Did you notice their discription on their site though?

Yeah... that's the thread/post I was referring to... 8-)

I have had other Diodes lasts for a very long time though. I will say one thing, I babied that Nichia diode like crazy when I built that laser. Soldering iron was on it for a total of at the most 3 seconds and I also had a heatsink on it while I soldered it.

Maybe there is something wrong with that driver....I never thought of that. I did use the same driver for both of the two AW210's. I will say though, when I set it up for the amount of current I was going to use, it was very steady and it didn't fluxuate.

However, the driver that I used with the Nichia diode was BRAND NEW.

Re: Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... che

Hmm. I was thinking there may be an issue with your driver given the lifetimes you are seeing, but if it's a lavadrive I imagine it's a good circuit. Are you using the same one over and over or do you have several?

Sorry I updated my post on you. :)

yea second hand is a harvested diode correct ::) :-? :P

Re: Qualifound 120mW CW 405nm Nichia diode.... che

Yes these come out of sleds, but they are not used.

Igor and someone else plotted the nichia diode to be almost identical to the 6x diode... There were a couple other people running theirs at 200mA without problems... hmmm...

A diode rated to be driven at ~120mA and last 5k hours really shouldn't die after just a few minutes at 180mA...
