pseudonomen137

Re: pseudonomen137 scammed me out of $425!

Hey guys.

Without going into too much detail, pseudonomen137, my argument simply boils down to the age-old issue of merchant Vs buyer and customer satisfaction.

To me, all that matters is that customers receive exactly what they expect, and given the variability in understanding, knowledge and desires from one customer to the next, the challenge falls on the merchant to take responsibility for managing expectations to ensure that everything is clear from the outset. This is why I don't agree with your assumption that I'd advocate cutting the situation clean and telling the buyer where to go, in this case.

I'm a tough customer, at least in the eyes of anyone wishing to sell me something, but think this is a good thing and that the world would be a better, if noisier, place if everyone did the same. There's no good reason why people shouldn't express their dissatisfaction without fear of negative response.

Saying that, fair play to you for seeking to settle this. I love a good case of a growing business and hope that we'll have another player to consider in the same light as the Laserglows, Optotronics, and Novalasers of the world  ;)

Anyway, here's to an amicable outcome for everyone directly concerned  :)

Re: pseudonomen137 scammed me out of $425!

Well me and Pseudo have never really been friends and we don't agree on a lot of things. As fellow enthusiasts we share some respect for each other and I feel I have to defend him here.

If you are looking for a scammer, then you will have to look elsewhere. Carter is most definitely not a scammer. If he says he will get you a laser that is within spec, then I have no doubt that he will deliver on his promise, as he has always done. Does a scammer throw in a load of extras, like balloons, matches and keyring pointers as gifts to make the purchase more memorable?

Reputation and credibility take an age to nurture, but seconds to destroy. Posting this thread was a bad error of judgement, considering he asked you for a week to make things good.

In all honesty, I would probably ignore all your Pms and e-mails too. If you have issues over postage costs or whatever then keep it private and only post here if you have proof you are being scammed.

]Carter,

Quick question? How does it feel to be  put on the receiving end of what you used to put WL through when you squated LC trying to make profit from that forum?

Not so quick answer:

This ain't the first time I've heard this accusation levied - I've seen it on LC too. Never really understood it though. Anyone who really cared to do any research at all would see I started into this hobby knowing nothing on the LC - I defended LC, I defended WL (of course, that was back when WL was king anyway so it wasn't that much of a triumph).

Then I got a power meter. Then the true colors of companies started to shine through. Roughly around the same time, I found ways to save LC members large sums of money on lasers by ordering them in quantity. I'd seen too much trouble with GBs, and honestly if I put that much time and risk in, yes, I felt I should take a cut. So I set out to offer some great deals with honest power specs, I put a considerable amount of my own money on the line, and yes, I intended to pocket a little profit of my own assuming things went well. Sometimes they did, sometimes they didn't and I'm definitely not racking in any fortune of my laser hobby. It remains a hobby, and the only difference is that for the work I put it, I may get lucky enough to break even and still keep some cool stuff for myself (whereas others have to pay all out of their own pocket). And afterall, if I offer the best deal (IE lowest profit margin), how can you criticize me if I still wanna take a little cut for myself too?

So if like so many fools you want to sit around and cause trouble with ignorance, that's your deal. If you truly act in the interest of everyone, I suggest you get your story straight.

And to really answer your question? It feels... deserved. I already said I deserved this, and I am going to have to sacrifice some to try fix the situation. As long as the people who attack me attack me with honest facts, I really can't do anything but take their side. In the past I haven't seen the same response from WL though - normally when I attack them with facts they prefer to try making me disappear. (that said, I've heard interesting news of WL working on turning around and trying to get back to how they used to be, but only time will tell how that turns out)

Re: pseudonomen137 scammed me out of $425!

Even if Carter was in it to make a profit off of a forum, whats wrong with that? Do you think mcdonalds sells burgers because they like to see you happy and with a full stomach? Hell no, they want to make money. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make a profit off of anything that you have vested your time into, provided that you provide a service or goods within a certain range of the market value, and sell what you advertise. I feel like he stands behind his products and if a customer isn't happy he will ultimately fix the problem. Now, like he has already said, it is his fault completely for being a bit lax with the whole situation, but he's trying to make it right.

Re: pseudonomen137 scammed me out of $425!

Carter,

Let's bring up the fact the two Spyders among other product you received from them, you didn't pay a dime for. You are complaining about something you got for free. You have had an hidden agenda as this hobbyist and betrayed WL when you were buddied up with Opto. Then proceeded to betray Opto, so if you want to air out your opinions, then let the whole truth and nothing but the truth be told.

I dunno if anyone remembers that stupid little prick, PROCTOR or not - but judging from the verbiage used, and writing style - I can only assume that it it him - IF I ASSUME INCORRECTLY, I APOLOGIZE - otherwise, reap what you sow.

Oh, you mean the Spyder I won in a contest from WL? I don't go around accusing people who win the lottery of betraying the lottery. (The contest was a random drawing. Whether or not it truly was random is something I can only speculate about, but I definitely didn't play any part in trying to tip the odds) When I got it though, I had so many problems with that Spyder...
Yes I am complaining about it. Whether I paid for it, or I got paid to take it, I still feel qualified to comment on its quality. To this day I defend the Spyder I's as a tremendous piece of work, but the Spyder IIs literally depress me. Holding a Spyder I and a Spyder II in my hands, I honestly get sad for the Spyder II.

I was never buddied with opto. In a time when your only choices were the Spyder, Herc, Aries, or RPL, I was impressed with their products and posted some positive stuff for them when I felt they were underrated. I can now sometimes offer comparable products at better prices though, so why not? Save you some money, make me some money, who loses? I fully admit the RPL/Prometheus are not the best built lasers, but they're nearly impossible to beat for the price. I still try to remain unbiased in commenting about all the products I have experience with whether I sell them or not.

So I'm sorry you feel I buddy with and betray companies, when in truth I'm simply trying to get my honest opinions across. When WL seemed a good company, I supported them. When they went to hell, I said so. I've heard they are supposedly improving and I plan to test that notion over the coming months... perhaps I'll be supporting them again some day. Why I am such the strange case is that I do that flip-flopping and my opinions are dynamic - I don't just choose a place and support it to the ends of the earth. I even complain about my own faults, though I am steadfast that I offer some pretty good deals.

So I'm sorry if the truth hurts so much, but your whining and uninformed comments won't stop me from searching for it.

PS: Nah, I don't think its Proctor IMO Greg (just a guess of course). Proctor was around LC long enough to know better than this guy who clearly only had time to see the back half of the story. Not to mention Proctor's been in touch in the past month or so. In any case, I don't even care what this guys identity is. Stick to the truth and you can be as anonymous as you like in my book. If you're gunna pull this crap though...

OK, let me clarify the specific timeline of events that resulted in me blowing up and spamming the forum with this thread.

5/19 - I pay pseudo and a few days later I receive an underpowered laser. pseudo verifies it's underpowered when he receives it and then ships out a replacement.

6/7 - I receive the replacement and it seems underpowered as well. It also loses over half its power in under 30 seconds at 80 degrees with no prior use. Even after a minute of cooling down, it remains at half power. So I ship it back.

6/15 - He retests the laser and claims it is "in spec", so he refuses to give me a refund. I ask him to retest at higher temperatures to confirm the terrible thermal stability.

6/19 - He confirms the huge power drop after heating up and offers me another replacement when he gets more in stock.

7/16 - After not responding to any emails or PMs for over 2 weeks despite posting on the forum every day, he finally says he just received a 160mW Nova that has excellent stability. He says he'll ship it out after a few days because he needs to take some pics for a review.

7/22 - I don't receive the replacement and ask him what's going on.

7/23 - He apologizes and says he'll take the pics that night and then ship it out.

7/30 - The laser never arrives. I lose my temper and spam the forum with this thread.

7/30 - He responds to this thread and requests 7 more days to send the laser before I do a chargeback.

I really hope pseudo keeps his word this time and sends me the replacement he promised to ship out 3 weeks ago.

Re: pseudonomen137 scammed me out of $425!

Carter,

Then its fair to say, since you are selling underpowered lasers then your "true colors" are showing as well. If a company sells you or gives you a free laser and its underpowered, there apology doesnt seem to work with you, so why should yours when you sell underpowered units to your customers?

Think about it, people make mistakes, companies make mistakes, but when you make one, you go on and on about how you are so deserving of a bad sale and you can undersell product and make yourself look oh so concerned but only as long as its you and your interests. You have to give bad press on anyone or anything that doesnt match up to your agenda.

It's also fair to say that once your grow beyond expectations and can no longer handle dealing with 100 times the orders per month, you too will be victim to consumers saying how your company used to be good and used to be great and hopes you can change back to what was once a good company, so really in effect what you perceive in WL or any other company is what your future will become. You have a reputation to uphold, I dont. Good luck dealing with thickle kids and consumers in the laser industry!

That would be FICKLE kids, I assume... It was just the type of typo I lurk around waiting to pounce on ;)

You DO bring up some decent points (no, I am not slamming Carter - merely speaking objectively) but do be cautious in how you attack others - it probably does not matter too much to you (new poster and all) and I have seen others pop in and out of various forums around, slinging mud to make their positions better - a little bit of courtesy goes a long way on THIS forum at least. Just friendly words of advice - unless you are the prick, PROCTOR, in which case - go to hell REGARDLESS of what you say ;)

Can someone make Avery make DrJohnny edit his avatar? It's funny but still kind of disgusting.
