Presale: The Ben Boost

You are a good man Moh! I think all of my drivers were well below the limit. But that is very cool that you tested them and made the change. It also shows why the actual parts cost does not necessarily dictate sales price.

You have to take into account for r&d and losses, etc...

I think your prices on the second batches are very fair.

Okay, so i removed the 1ohm resistor.

The drivers now performing UNHEATSINKED for 41 seconds before thermal kicked in.

The HEATSINKED driver performed perfectly fine for over 6 minutes, and then i shut it off.

So it looks like that was the problem, and these drivers are fine now.

What was the 1 ohm resistor there for? Never mind, just saw the post above.

Though thinking of it now you're right, as I could just set them on the inductors instead of balancing them in the air by their tabs.
Hindsight is a dirty whore.

That's how I do mine.

So far, every 1.25A driver reaches thermal protection in like 4 seconds. I have yet to test any WITH a heatsink though.
All of the 950 and below have all tested out great though.

A couple things to keep in mind:

1) What works GREAT with a fully charged (~4V) cell, may not work great at 3.8V, or 3.4V, etc. Remember that as voltage falls, the amount of boosting required INCREASES. So either test them at ~3.6V of input, OR build some extra margin into your planning.

2) If you're shooting for 1.2A, remember that when voltage falls, you'll need more current supply from your cells. I have found that 1A is about the max I like these set at if I'm using a CR123, 14500, or anything else equal to or lower in current supply capabilities.

3) You will not regret heat-sinking your drivers, even at lower currents. In some cases (lower current cases) it can be as simple as putting the tiniest bit of aluminum on the IC. Given how small the IC is, even a negligible sliver of aluminum can basically double its thermal capabilities.

Okay I'm done for the day. I got 23 packages ready. Hopefully I can be completely caught up by tomorrow.

Hey Moh what voltage did you test them at and what was the draw for the given current?

Are these comming with input output guidline pages or some "instructional" paperwork? I'm suggesting this for future runs perhaps. Thanks for this Moh tell the lady of the house thank you also if she is like mine she hates lasers by now.

There's little V+ and V- markings right on the board... ;)

As far as specs, i'd consult ben or rhd.

The battery side is labeled V+ and V-, The diode side is labeled with + and -.

It's important to note that these must be driven like micro boost drives.
You cannot bypass the Negative input like on the flex or linear drivers, or it will negate the entire driver.

Oh yay, lots of PMs!

j/k

Some real important notes:

1) Don't run them without a load attached.
2) Neither (+) nor (-) is continuous
3) If you heatsink the IC, use a sliver of metal on the IC first, so that the heatsink itself is raised about the rest of the components and doesn't short them.
4) Take all the other precautions that you would with a MicroBoost

I noticed that it seems like the pre-sale is over.
When do you think these will be offered at the normal rate?

A week? I'm really hoping they come this week.
I have 300 which should be here this coming week assuming the PCB guy doesn't get delayed.
In addition to that, I have another 1000 that will arrive a couple of weeks later.

1300 drivers holy crap that's 13,000 dollars in finished products you stand to gain 4-5 dollars a peace 5200 and 7500$ well moh thats a nice new dpss for you
