^ Correct, however the fluorescent tubing it's usually encased in sometimes glows under UV.

Hmmm, interesting :)

I have neither seen nor heard of it :p

It seems like you like messing around with electricity quite a bit, got any flybacks? :D I have a few crt monitors lying around that I can extract flybacks from. I even have a huge crt TV that is aproximately 120-150 cm across. But I dont think im up to the challenge of taking that appart just now :p

From watching a few youtube video's I've learnt enough to make a simple flyback driver and wire it up correctly. Although, I've seen people who manage to get "ginormous" sparks/arc's using a single flyback. Im guessing they are using a much more complicated driver and such but I really don't want to spend months gathering up parts and even more months of connecting everything up including trial and error, lol

So, I would appreciate any help :) I don't really wan't to pursue a huge project. Probably just a simple driver using a current regulator and a few resistors. I will then encase that in a simple project box with a "dead mans" switch and use some simple PVC pipe to hold one terminal.

Oh yeh, 1 question. Would hooking up one of the polarities to ground increase the distance that I can ceate arc's at? My common sense leads me to believe so since electricity like running into the earth :p

Cheers!

Yeah :) , it comes in strip and panel form aswell as wire ranging from 1.2mm to 5mm diamiter , i have a A7 size pice of blue EL panel aswell its bendable and can have shaps cut into it aswell .

Yeah :D its fun . I used to have flybacks but never got my zvs running so gave up on them eventually .

Excuse my newbiness, but what exactly do you mean by zvs?

EDIT: I've seen youtube vids where people go from a flyback sitting on the floor to a crazy arc generator in like 15 minutes :D

In the particular vid I saw the guy managed to completely hook one up in like 5 minutes. Although he already had a very simple driver laid out on breadboard.

ZVS = zero voltage switching. Commonly referred to as a mazzilli driver. I have all the parts bar the tank cap and inductor if you want them - your in sydney so it would cost nuffin to mail.

You'd end up having to get (from jaycar) 2 470R ceramic 5W resistors, an inductor (47-150uH), a HV cap 2.2-4uf 400V), and a flyback. I can even give you a PCB. Since your driving flybacks a LOT of the monitoring components arent needed (its a cap charger PCB). You basically build the bottom 2/3 of the board, and eliminate J1 - allowing the circuit to operate continiously whenever power is applied.

Then you experiment with the turns of wire on your flyback to get the biggest arc. You can throw more voltage (up to 24v) into the circuit to make even bigger arcs. Above 24v the mosfets tend to go bang. :P

PM me if your interested - I dont want to take the "New Acquisitions" thread too far OT :)

Just got a 99.99% 1g Cesium vial sealed under vacuum in acrylic cast.

It was the last piece, Glad that i picked it.
BTW It looks awesome in person

That's beautiful.... Were did you get it, and how much did it cost?

Dr. Laser: no blowing up bathtubs with that cesium :P

(theres a (quite fake) vid of braniacs blowing up a bathtub with 2g of that stuff)

Everybody is showing his dangerous stuff, I like it :D
I bought a katana, heat tempered 1060 steel.

You bought that on purpose? For real? Knowing what it was? EWW :eg:
I have an iPhone 4 here somewhere, IDK where it even is... and I don't care :na:
iPhones SUCK

-D

It's really a matter of preference, Android and iOS both have their ups and downs.
