I was in Biloxi about 2 weeks before Katrina late July or early august of 05, I remember it still felt like summer and was hot, I had stayed at one of the older motels across the road from the ocean with my girl, I remember I walked the beach in flip-flops and a tank top and went into the Presidential like that and shot craps, I remember swimming in the motel pool with my girl and some young kids, happened to be afro American kids from the hood just a few blocks behind the strip, funny how the socio economics change so fast there.

The kids came to swim while the parents and extended family sat around the pool talking about their casino evening plans and I was letting them jump off my shoulders and throwing them with their parents acknowledging nod, I remember one young boy told me he didn't like the deep end, he said please don't throw me in the deep end mister.

I said ok, but why, can't you swim, he said NO, I said you need to know how to swim and he asked me why, I said it could be important one day and everyone should know how to swim and I tried to show him how to swim and tread water, he got the treading down but just couldn't swim, he would get scared and give up every time......I had no idea that hurricane was going to be there just weeks later or I would have spent longer trying to teach him, I wonder if he survived, I wonder if he remembers me.....I hope he survived and I will never forget him asking me why, that still haunts me.

I did go back months after the storm and although casino row and New Orleans was destroyed they had bourbon street up and running, you could drive away from the tourist area and everything was blacked out, no streetlights, they had 4 way stop signs hammered in with dead stoplights still overhead, abandoned cars, 100's of them, late model even, were pushed up under the overhead causeway and you could see miles of blacked out houses and apartments along the interstate, I would get off and see the occasional RV and generator in a driveway, the rest was dark and abandoned.

These are Biloxi, I used to make a lot of casino trips, I have other pics that are from film and have to be scanned, it was really something to see, like Armageddon, the 5th ward was really bad, they bulldozed houses down that weren't scrubbed from the earth, some lots were just scrubbed to the slab by the storm.

These were taken in November of 2006 with a cell phone, my 1st with a cam I do believe, I have more pics from earlier trips the year before but they were on film and I have not scanned the pics, the amount of damage was hard to believe without seeing, but where the water stopped smashing stuff life went on as usual, just a lot more local business as people cleaned up.

This was Treasure Island Casino, looked like a pirate ship, it's flat gone.

In 1969 I was in Gulfport, Mississippi and we stayed when Camile hit. Everything from the beach to about a mile from the coast was flattened. I remember going out the next day and walked all the way to the beach which was about three miles from where we lived. Nothing was recognizable and there were large ships a half mile inland on their sides. Normally would be worried about electricity, but there was absolutely none. That was by far the worst hurricane I've ever seen and many people died in it too. Mostly people having hurricane parties in the hotels close to the beach. We left for a month while they got the electricity back on and the water back. I can't remember for sure, but I think as many as 2000 people were lost in that hurricane.

I remember in 92 my grandfather had passed in 90 and my grandmother was alone in Miami during Andrew, we were on the phone with her when it went out and had no idea what we would find, but we knew she was in the house where my father grew up and Granddad overbuilt everything.

So we had gas cans and generators strapped to the ladder rack, camping everything and chainsaws the biggest we could get from our Atlanta home depot, I remember a brand new Muculloch Timber Bear with a long blade that I ended up needing all of.

We had packed everything even spare tires, we went down to cut the trees off the house from hurricane Andrew, there was no power or street lights and we had to explain to the cops who we were and where we were going when we got there, they said Homestead got the worst of it but that place was wrecked, but that 50 year old house granddad build was holding up 3 big trees that fell on it, she had the tallest sea grapes in all of Florida.

I will have to scan some of the old pics, that one tree must have been 3 feet wide, I would tie a rope from the tree to the truck of the smaller ones and use walkiey talkies to get dad to pull with the truck while I cut through the birds mouth.

Back then I was in my early 20's and it was an adventure, I climbed all over that place, they had bought 3 lots before there was even a neighborhood and had a house in the middle of a jungle, tons of lizards and geckos to catch and caster trees with caster beans, I remember splitting open the round green shell then the core and seeing that red thing inside, then dad said don't eat that it's deadly poison.....the red was a clue but I'm glad he told me.

Here's a pic from the web, these are what I saw and they had an inner shell with some yellow goo and a bright red core, I had no idea and was just playing with them in my bare hands splitting them open with a knife.

It's amazing how the smallest decisions can make such a big difference in life.

I scanned some old pics but have to resize them, we had to hack our way through a flattened jungle just about, but it was quite nice afterwards until Grandma moved to Atlanta with us later on.

This was a front sitting area, the house is off to the right, it was actually quite nice, but she did go through a case of yard guard spray each week.

Yeah, ricin is made from castor beans and is a deadly toxin. It depends on how it is absorbed how toxic it is. 22uG/Kg is fatal if inhaled, but it takes about 1mg/Kg if taken orally. That is because the stomach acid detoxifies much of the two chains that inhibit ribosomes. It has been used as nerve agent in the past.

I can easily share all my CAD designs to ElectricPlasma e.g / any machinist on the LPF.

That heatsink is designed for DTR 25mm Cu module & since Sanwu 3X BE backend is also 25mm you can easily adjust depth how much heatsink supports BE. You can lock Cu module & BE on their place with few set screws. -Secondly Heatsink will fit most of 26650 flashlight bodies I've tried.

And I don't mind if any modifications or improvements are made on my designs..

I keep 91% isopropyl alcohol around for general cleaning/disinfecting and after wetting my hands with the alcohol I touched a Chinese made flashlight ( Black ) and discovered that it may not be anodized, the black paint? rubs off easily with a little alcohol on a paper towel.

Update on my little discovery, apparently the back half is cast from zinc and painted while the front half is aluminum and retains it's color when rubbed with alcohol.

Interesting, a you've discovered a quick and easy way of creating a two toned host.

I hit it with a bit of 2000 grit auto body sandpaper and got a shine started, maybe I will get out the liquid metal polish, then roll the top around a sanding disc to clear the lands and leave black in the groves, it could look good...or I might just say ski-rue it and leave it be.

That looks a lot better already. The black in the grooves may look nice. Post more images when you are done. :beer:
