I got my 445nm diodes and LED from Pontiacg5 today (thanks! :beer:) and fired it up. It is awesome!



The setup with a huge heatsink and fan:

The resistor (copper wire). The power is from a ATX psu, 8.1A @ 5V.

That's an insane LED! Everything about the Casio projector seems to be epic.

The die projected on the ceiling with an aixiz acrylic lens. You can see the cathode-mask as many parallel stripes.

The first two pins to the left are for the thermistor. Pin 3, 4, 5 is cathode. Pin 6, 7, 8 is anode. The back plate/heatsink is also anode.

You likely didn't notice but your "resistor" is leaving some char marks on your nice 2x4 :D
Awesome vid & pics. Your going to use it as a brake light for your car? ;)

How is the heat attached to your heatsink? You have the thermistor connected yes?

I have a pair of these which might eventually become brake lights :)

I already commented over on YT but I love the project, very impressive indeed. Where did you get the optics?
 
I use this reflector without the holder (they are made of plastic, NOT glass as described). The glass lens on top is one I just had laying around, I needed it to protect the reflector from the heat when burning. The voltage drop is 2.3V. I don't know what kind of connector it is, I just happened to find a 10 pin female, I cut off the excess two pins to make it fit. I haven't connected the thermistor.

BTW, you do not want to use this as a brake light lol! This thing is super bright, like a head light!

I'm working on a different idea, for this little led ..... a bit more "evily" thoughd :eg: ..... sorta of "pocket-size self-defense helper" ..... :p :D

I've been testing mine @ about 3 amps ...

and I assure you that you cannot look into the focused beam.

Do you need to use all three wires on each connection, or are you
simply doing so to distribute how much current each wire gets.
