PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I wont be buying one, not to interested in 565, very rare but i'd rather something in the 589-600 range. Thought i'd just ask some questions and let others who might be interested know.

On another note..............WHO lives in Virginia???

480nm diode for sale - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sharp-473n...463137&hash=item239edb46c8:g:748AAOSwvHRa2CcT

J

Yea thats me :P

That would be Lazerman121. Seems he is trying to get as much money as possible for one of those 473nm to 478nm Sharp diodes that no one is getting any more.
Yep I saw the potential for these diodes So I stashed a few away. its not the first one I have listed and won't be the last :eg:

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I didn't know you were the Lazerman they were talking about, thought it was another one, they left the number off, wouldn't have been so suspicious of that one bidder if I knew it was you or should I have been, you little devil?

Edit: What do you all have to say about this kind of laser power probe? Can they be accurate within plus or minus 3% as stated?

Look again, Chris. I didn't leave anything off.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

that's so weird, I see it now.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

That "laser probe" looks like someone took an old meat thermometer and made to laser power meter out of it. I wouldn't trust it to be within 10% of an accurate measurement. It even has an old analog meter movement on it.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I may do better to make my own calorie meter using water and something to absorb the beam inside of it, then measure how much the water temperature increases over a period of time. I knew a ham radio operator who used this method with a dummy load submerged in the water to measure RF power, I'm thinking it might work for lasers, if you take into consideration power being reflected when entering the water (if shooting from the top of the container down), but not sure how much will be reflected.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

In theory it should. You'll have to isolate the water from outside temperature changes. You can measure power this way by work done by a rotating paddle wheel as was done hundreds of years ago.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

I bet someone could make a poor mans laser power meter that way cheap and sell them to hobbyists.

It sounds like a good idea, but these are made for pump diodes which are on the opposite side of the spectrum from NUBM44s. If you can make it work, I'm interested. Might cost a cunk of change to find out it won't.

I will call and ask before spending my precious coin, I typically research before just buying stuff, however talking about concepts is a good start and I would not be surprised to find fiber used in much of our future laser technology.

I'm really looking for a lot more power than a half dozen blues, but it could be fun, ultimately I want to do metal art, with all the proper safety equipment.

There's information to be found in many places and I find this very interesting, here's their site > http://www.itftechnologies.com/

Yeah, it is an interesting site, but still seems to be primarily about IR technology. That alone makes me a bit skeptical.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Yes, I knew all that before reading it now. I also know that there are fiber optics for different wavelengths used in spectroscopy. I have an Ocean Optics UV VIS NIR fiber optic cable made for this purpose and it works better than other fiber optics I have tried to use in its place. So, I've known for some time that different fiber optics work better in the applications they were designed to do. My concern is that because these fiber optics were made for longer wavelengths, they may not perform well at much shorter ones.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

It's evolving all the time, I have seen visible light carried by fiber, apparently it has challenges, how well they have been addressed I don't know but the company I was looking at is likely not involved with visible light, too bad it's not readily compatible.

Here's something interesting > https://www.laserfocusworld.com/art...sources-fiber-lasers-tune-to-the-visible.html

This is amazing > http://www.isciencetimes.com/articl...-stopped-germany-fastest-particle-crystal.htm

Sorry for getting off topic here everyone.
