PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Ultimatekaiser has one. Edit: Encap, just saw your post too, I waited too long to post. Yea, a dream come true for sure brother of the collimated :)

The spec sheet is making me disoriented and light headed

Spectral purity: 99%, Beam quality M2: horizontal and vertical the same <7, Divergence <1.4 on and on....

Yep, gone! 3 watts of yellow, OMG!

Edit: Alex, I didn't see your message until now, I bought that Coherent 577 nm

OMG, you bought it!! Whooaa, thats awesome news!!
I'm happy for you Chris!

Fantastic find Arctic.

Edit: Alaskan bought it and now one forever I think

Awesome killer laser--that is an OMG-C-577 kick ass output laser:crackup:
Can't believe you got that one--finally at long last a yellow and condition = New!!! You deserve it.

A very yellow, yellow/577nm + a Coherent Genesis is so much better quality than anything CNI does---
Coherent is not the acknowledged laser industry leader without real reason.
Should be a dream come true when you get it running

That was Pure Luck that I saw that item listing, I wasnt even looking for any 577nm lasers.
We were looking some diode arrays on my friends computer when I saw that Genesis 577nm on related items row and I felt I had to post it here. :)

----

EDIT:
Can't wait for seeing it emitting yellow photons...

I'm glad to have that baby, yellow, as many member here know, has been my goal/gold.... :) Only concern I have now is what does it take to build up a power supply to control this thing. I have a high end 60 amp
Xantrex XFR20-60 DC power supply for the diode, but look at all of those wires, I am not familiar with OPSL, now I'm worried I might have a problem interfacing it without the OEM power supply. Although, I am electronics savvy, have a degree in electronics technology, so can probably handle it, what makes me uncomfortable is not knowing what I need yet. I know DPSS, but OPSL? Not.

Wires coming from the heatsink are most likely for TECs. Other head connector wires are likely for optical feedback, temperature sensing and TEC power. Shouldn't be too complicated. I'd talk to UK or someone else that has one of these and see if they can tell you which is which.

OPSL isn't a whole lot different from DPSS.

Great, thank you, I do need UK to give me some pointers. Near 2 AM here, night all.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Chris, congrats on the laser buy of a lifetime; 3W of 577nm has got to be an awesome sight!
We're all jealous, but very glad to see that you finally got your yellow laser; I'm sure UK, diachi, and the guys will get you up and running in no time.

Yep, these are way too expensive new for a hobbyist, even used usually high, but this one was priced within reach. I need to go to sleep, but I'm still searching the net to understand this unit. The seller has a video showing one operating, I don't understand why some of these units I've found photo's of on the net show what appears to be a collimation lens you can lock into the output, and this video which shows one without that lens.

Here a link to a similar OPSL with the lens assembly I am referring to: Lasershow Parts - Coherent Taipan 577nm Yellow OPSL Laser - 3000mw

Edit: posted again to find I missed one: RCB, I'd love to have a night sky beam shot, I will try to get the seller to do that for me for something extra, don't know if he will or not. It may be a long while until I can work with it, can't do it here in Iraq.

I would also get everything I could on it from Coherent to read up on it --words, diagrams, schematics and get familiar with then email and call a Coherent Genesis specialist tech and have him work with you on what is needed get it running the way it should run

Maybe the seller can give me copies of those docs, he repairs these for a living.

I PM'd UltimateKaiser, he told me what it would take to get one running. From what he wrote, appears nothing more sophisticated than a high power DPSS needs. In the past I was able to get a 2-3 watt output 532 nm Jenoptik's laser working with three power supplies and keep it in the sweet spot for heat management manually, that's a real task, need lots of quick knob turning the whole time, but I did it. Didn't run it long though, tiring to keep an eye on the two thermistors for the KTP and diode, adjusting currents the entire time. Ran it for five minutes and put it on the shelf for a future project with circuit boards to do the work for me.

My big burning question right now is why this OPSL does not have that lock-in optic head like on some of the others I've seen similar to this module, I can see where it locks in. The seller told me this is collimated already, so what is that for? Edit: I should just ask him, but I think I may be close to wearing him out with emails through ebay last night, will give him a rest, but if anyone knows, please post. May be a few days until I can get with him again for docs and more questions.

I'd call Coherent directly and ask, in the past I've been brushed off when they saw I wasn't a big dollar spender, just a hobbyist, but UltimateKaiser should be good enough for that advice, if I don't wear out my welcome with him. He hasn't been posting much lately, busy guy I bet.

Maybe some docs on the Coherent web site also--a manual and so on

Sounds good you have a lot resources --if the seller repair them for a living he can tell you all about any aspect I would think. UK can do also.
I think if Coherent knew that you owned a new unit by model and serial and it is a recent build 2015, they would be happy to speak with and help you---you're an owner of nice Coherent laser not just someone asking questions. Coherent deos claim "Coherent has locations across the globe that are available to provide support for any product, service or inquiry."

OK, one way or another I will get this figured out. I don't count my eggs hatched until I have them. Seller seems fully reputable but kind of concerning to buy something like this to be unable to get it running in a few months to a year, far beyond the ebay guarantee.

Hey, I found a 50 watt plus 532 nm laser on ebay someone might be able to get for a good offer price:

Laserscope Greenlight PV 532nm HPS LightShow Research Tech Sci-Fi Skylight Laser | eBay

Maybe ask the seller if he will hook up and run the actual unit you bought and video it for you just to be sure everything is 100%--he says it is new unused so it should be

If he has a power supply for it, maybe he will. I will ask, he has a video of a unit in operation linked to on his listing of the same model, but looking carefully at the solder pattern for the power input, you can see it isn't the same laser head.

Coherent will not give info if you are not the original buyer-that's why. They owe no information or support to anyone that isn't the product purchaser. It's just the way a lot of those companies are, and is often listed in their terms of warranty and sale. It's a waste of their time, and costing them money when they can be doing more productive work, on top of the fact that they don't have any guarantees on who they are actually talking to. It's quite hard to get these companies to talk if you're not already 'one of the fold' if you will. In the company's eyes, things of importance are included with the laser upon purchase and it is the responsibility of the seller to provide them relevant docs and all that if it is changing ownership. Remember that most of these are generally put into equipment-so when stuff like this is resold, it is intended only as parts to someone who is replacing them into the same equipment typically, and thus will already know what to do with it-not to someone starting fresh. I've actually even been referred to as 'doctor' or other such titles many times when talking with these people, as they assume my position automatically because that is who they typically deal with day to day-engineers making products.

It's a shame really.

I actually have worked on a few of these with good success so far, but hell if you'd ever get info from an engineer about a current product...an obsolete one maybe, but a current one...? hell no. They could care less, especially when it's a laser that is powerful enough to potentially cause harm if misused, and is generally used in eye surgeries and other things. :/

^That's not very nice of them :wtf:. Although it's understandable I suppose....., most companies don't want to deal with us hobbyists, we don't spend nearly enough money to make it worth their while.
