How about something simple and descriptive - the "CC-Boost" (ie, the "Constant Current Boost")

I like that it explains explains up front that you're getting constant current, and a step-up driver.

Have some parts and boards on order :)

For anyone interested ill have some extra FP6298 in a few weeks as i need less than 10 but ordered 50, if anyone wants any PM me and ill let you know when they arrive i could sell them for 25 cents plus shipping.

Hopefully ill be able to figure out how to reflow with a hot plate i see it p[osted online that this is a easy way to do it at home :)

The only time i have done reflow soldering in the past was with a professional oven but i dont have access to that equipment any longer and this board looks to tight for hand soldering all the connections but i might give that a shot as well.

The best way to reflow (IMO) at a hobby scale is a reflow gun. They cost about $60, and work exceptionally well. It'll be difficult to do a two sided board in a skillet, but is easily done with a reflow gun.

Rifter, let me know when you get them, I would like a couple. At just over 6 bucks a piece, I plan on making (or at least attemtping to make) 5-6 of them. Heck I may even buy a rework station.


And im just going to be referring to these as "RHD boost drives." Unless you decide on a name, that is :)

I've got an order on too for 12 drivers worth of parts to give my toaster oven reflowing a go and test out how well I can make them. If all goes well I should be making a run of about 50-100 soon. I've also got some spare FP6298 if anybody in aus is looking for one cheaper/faster postage than from canada. And rhd, I like the name CC-Boost.

Alright - CCBoost it is :)
 
I think I will go with this right hurr. nothing fancy, but it will get the job done. And even if I only make 5 drivers at 6$ a piece, its paid for itself already :)

Now make us a high current adjustable buck drive RHD :eg:

You appear to be right, didn't realize that was an option for under $100

Yup - That's a decent one. I have the same one, but re-branded. I had to replace the switch on mine, but other than that it has held up to quite a bit of use.
 
Great work RHD, certainly you (and others) have invested time in this driver. I've been keeping an eye on this thread for awhile now and it's nice to see how it has progressed.

Recently I purchased a parts bundle from Jufran88 on a 3A selectable test load and soldered it up myself. I think something similar would be a good idea for this driver. Parts + PCB board.
It's coming together, good work fellas.
 
ah, thank you lightingstalker- for some reason when i tried uploading the file it just got stuck on "processing file" for eternity.

Oh, i just thought about this- solder paste stencils. Everywhere I've looked seems pretty expensive.

Will these require heatsinking at all current levels or only when in the high range?
