ONGOING: Big Boy 3x18650 Host $30

You're in-continent too so it arrives very fast. US folks will have to wait a bit more though. :p

Ontopic, somebody should really ask Wolfman and Machinist if they want their heatsinks or not. I have other stuff to machine.

Just wondering, how much time does it take (for your father) to machine a heatsink or a focus adapter? Just wondering. :san:

On average?

About 40-45 minutes for one Big Boy heatsink, including cutting off the piece off the bar stock, and installing the set screw and doing the final 800grit finish on the front face.

About maybe 25-30 minutes for a focus adapter.

Like I said, that's average. Sometimes he does 1 heatsink the whole day, sometimes he does a bulk of 30 pieces in one weekend. It all depends.

Does anyone know if there is a 3x18650 in series holders for these hosts? Maybe I should send Ric a mail about them.. either that or I will have to make one...

I see on the cnc site were the Dry host battery holder was for sale 9.00 bucks I think... if you had a gold spring to solder on the top for the Neg. it would work nicely very nicely.:beer:

It's not that much of work that takes time, as my dad's OCD does. :D Everything is re-measured 3 times, and then some more times, every cut must be perfectly alligned and everything is double-checked. For the amount of double-checking he does, he's actually making some good time, he goes through all double checks and measurements quite quickly.

Yeah, set screw is exactly the same stuff we're all used to from the dawn of custom made heatsinks. Though, I don't use the Philips screw head ones, I dunno why people use those, I use regular flat-head screws.
 
I saw that just not sure if it would work for the BIGBOY have to add a switch and spring and not sure about the diameter.. So I just wasnt sure... I'll talk to Ric and see if he knows.


Never had a problem with your set screws there some of the best I have seen large enough that you are not going to strip the screw.. I have about 10 heatsinks here that I need to send out for re-screwing cuz there just fkd the way they are...

You can make the stock parallel holder into a series batteries holder. It is hard to explain. But just follow the electrical path and your logic. Cut the wires and solder a new connection where it needs to.
 
OK well Dont mean to go post crazzy on yall but I figured out the batery holder. It is actually quite easy to convert to series. There are 4 cuts that have to be made to the holder One on the top and bottom on each board. You will have to remove the switch to do one of the cuts but it's not that hard to do The cut that needs to be done in between the springs I did with a sharp pair of scissors and just scrached down to board the rest I did with a dremmel. Here are some pics of the cuts.

Thanks Blord for making me think it through. Also the other nice thing about this holder is that you cant put it in backwards... You just have to get the batteries into the holder corectly.

Good job. Did you also switch the raised contactpoint and the spring for the second battery holder ? It is merely aesthetic.
 
I just left them the same I didnt think that it would make a real difference. Allthough it would help to keep the batteries going in the right way (neg to spring).
 
Also got my host today. Now I'm just waiting on the heatsink :D Great job Ryan :beer: This went over very smoothly
