Is it possible to determine from this photo what laser diode is installed? Module purchased here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fre...-Blue-Light-450nm-laser-head/32750454123.html Module worked very little, very quickly degraded.

It is a NUB diode probably a NUBM08. The ones I have seen taken apart are ball lens units with the can removed which do degrade quickly. I have had quite a few people state they had the exact same problem. One of my larger customers did some testing on the one he got and said he only got 5.6W out of it even though it was rated 12W. He took it apart and it had a NUB that had the ball lens removed.

Perhaps this photo will help to accurately identify. Tell me whether it can be replaced by NUMB44. How long the NUMB44 will work?

Hi,
I just decayed a NUMB44 for the hello it to see the outcome as Jordan said they do depreciate very fast . as for the 08 ,07,06 diodes i would leave the can on . i tested all of those diodes , better left alone in my opinion. Even with the ball untacked it still is a very efficient diode even though you can't focus it. personally i like them with the can intact.

Rich, I don't think they are the same diode as the NUBM44 never had a Gball lens. I think the reason they degrade is the gas that is inside an intact NUBM08. Once the can is removed, the diode degrades in the atmosphere. It could very well be the O2.

Hi Paul,
I realize that being a NUBM44 has a can and no gas is involved, I took the ball lens off all of the diodes i stated and they degrade very fast compared to the canned or decanned diodes. Maybe i worded the post wrong but you are correct with your statements buddy. sorry for that..

No, I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. I guess I thought you were trying to determine this by decanning a 44.

In my case, I believe that mine was damaged from the G2 lens being screwed down too much. I used the S4X host build without adding the andonized extended length focusing ring with external spring. I believe light reflecting back damaged mine. That is the NUBM44 6W 450nm with G2 lens in pic.

That sure doesn't look like a 44 with a G2 lens. They have much worse divergence than that nice round beam.

I once sold a NUBM44 in S4X build to a member here by the name of Calikirk. When it got to him it had this same exact look to the dot. I know it didn't look like that when I sent it so Maybe something got messed up in the delivery. That and it wasn't my finest build. But it's interesting to see someone else who has had the same or similar incident.

I think this is due to the window being damaged. I've seen it before when I sold my 44 build.

I would expect that to not only decrease the power, but also the life of the diode. Too bad. These are not being driven for longevity as it is.

I need keylock for my s4x and locking carry case. When I asked what did you do? I taped one of those star caps on it. Looked at cheapo penstyle starcap lens....burnt black! I wasn't finished I taped that golden dragon head to it too! 5Ummm yeah ecig tip.....shined flashlight inside it....burnt!
:yabbem: $200 + for laser parts and I didn't get to watch the golden dragon's 2mm mouth light up! :yabbem:
And I am admitting to making a retarted mistake of believing the nubm44 with short on back half had a driver in it or I never would have soldered it together. Even at that without the driver it ran for over a week on 2 x 3.7v batteries and I mean good. So I have no choice but question it when you say he said he got it that way?

Peeps starcaps are kiddy laserpointer stuff! These are high powered multi mode laser diodes! Don't even assemble it without the external spring under the G2 focusing ring! In most cases it is sold separately.

Wish I could find a kit to replace the tailcap button o. My S4X with a keylock.
This laser was able to set a leaf on fire submerged in water while it was raining! As previously mentioned with the S4X it lives up to it's name SURVIVAL LASER!

I remember Claikirk. I sent him a large sheet diffraction grating and he sent me a couple of multi-line 532nm pointers. What ever happened to him? He wasn't here very long.

Not too sure. He seemed very into the hobby and was buying quite a few lasers from the BST section. Might just have a lot on his plate or something.

That's too bad. I liked him. Hope he's okay. He seemed very interested in learning all he could about the physics and didn't seem to just want to burn something.
