NO LONGER FS(GONE): CNI 473nm Handheld, >80mW will do middleman

Re: FS: CNI 473nm Handheld, >80mW will do middleman

If I had the money I'd buy a 140mW 473 handheld in a heartbeat. Sadly I just spent a good chunk of my money on a >80mW 473nm handheld

Re: FS: CNI 473nm Handheld, >80mW will do middleman

Hey.. uhh how do i change the thread title?

Re: FS: CNI 473nm Handheld, >80mW will do middleman

Last time I checked, you just had to edit your post or something. I am not sure actually.

So this was traded to me and it was DOA, even with a middleman. What's standard procedure? A tradeback?

What?! This is the guy I traded my headphones with but never got any of the two lasers he sent me. This was one of them along with a LG Vega. I am confused, could you please let me know what the hell is going on?

Look at his rep. This is the same guy that complained about getting a broken argon from a forum member, then tried selling the same broken argon for $300 + shipping on ebay, then denied the whole thing when everyone caught him. File some disputes if you can, do something, this guy's a lying, scamming, dirt bag, and needs to be punished as such.

The thing is, it was working when I got it from the middleman (Dave).

I am filing a USPS insurance claim... good thing I got it insured.

I'm confused. Was it dead on arrival, or was it working on arrival?

You said DOA, but then you said it worked when you got it.

I think this scenario warrants close attention given:
1) The argon thing
2) DrummerDimitri's comment
3) The fact that *a VEGA* was sold to someone, even though it was also supposedly sold on craigslist, and I also saw it on his eBay page (that's a few VEGAs, which could be legit, but that's a lot of VEGAs)
4) Your issue

Something could be fishy here, or it could all be explainable. But I think it's worth figuring out which. Starting with some clarity though - was it actually DOA ?

The laser worked fine here
I sent a video of it being LPM'd before the trade went through
The laser was NOT DOA, but it was far from up to spec when he first tested it
At this point I am saying that the laser, (like most 473's) is sensitive to temperature
The laser was delivered in 90 degree weather
It sat here in my 75 degree house overnight before it was tested (I had to recharge his battery ;) )
Now that it has cooled some, the laser is acting better (but not yet as it did here)
I have recommended that he allow the laser to sit for several hours to allow the temperature to stabilize (and for it to finish cooling)

This is NOT a dead laser traded away as a scam
It is a high powered 473nm with the inherent instability displayed by most of these lasers

Peace,
dave

Then it's worth being careful about the phrase DOA.
DOA = Dead on arrival - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolf - It sounds like this wasn't DOA. You asked for input on this. I know this is a topic that has seen a lot of discussion elsewhere on the forum. But my feeling is that with used "professional" lasers (like those from CNI, JetLasers, etc that aren't DIY'd by a builder on the forum), you can't expect too much warranty beyond a warranty that the item will work when received. Unless of course the seller says something otherwise upfront in the sale thread.

Well, here's how it happened.

It worked in Dave's place.

When I got it, I pulled it outta the box, charged some batteries for a while to top 'em off (30 mins or so) and stuck 'em in. I immediately got like 10-20mW peak and then it dropped to a few mW. The same keep on happening until it started powering ON at a few mW.

Now, after I have gotten back for a few hours, it lasted about 30-40 seconds above 100mW. It peaked at around 140mW (WOW!). However, then it just started dropping off again.

Am I just not used to have a laser that will literally drop to nearly zero output after about 40 seconds? I always thought CNI GLPs were supposed to have no duty cycle?

Oh, this was a GLP?

My 473 GLP flies all over the place. From ~30mW at startup, to maybe ~70mW or 80mW once running, and then it falls again.

If it was a PGL, then I'd say maybe the crystal TEC isn't running properly. But admittedly I'm not sure if 473s have TECs on the crystals like 589 and high powered 532s do. But if this is a GLP, but you can't really expect too much stability out of such a small unit.

EDIT: CERTAINLY NOT no duty cycle.
