Look "masterofdoom" is it? You DO NEED to read up on lasers first. The shit you're suggesting on how to build it or even if real light sabers could exist just proves it.

The only things you've done was show how little you know of lasers and what you need to know so get used to the idea of reading up on REAL things in life before you try to sugar coat your words which cannot be covered up with good grammar and sentience structure because of the amount of stupidity in them

EDIT: This forum is for Smart people and anyone who is willing to learn, who actually do learn and are ready to discuss laser related matters. It's not a haven for retarded discussion even though it seeps its way in here from time to time even by experienced members.

Thank you all for the wonderfully well written responses.

Maybe i was a bit rash in my early decision to build a fully functional saber. Last week my friends and i attended this wonderful convention and i saw many people with these replica light sabers. I just wanted to impress everyone by building the most awesome laser light saber ever. Something that would put everyone elses saber to shame and make me the coolest person at the convention. Anyways, I do have some snow boarding goggles i can use while working with the laser. If these are not recommended can i have a link to some proper goggles. I'm not very big into reading and science so I'd like to learn using first hand experience. Does anyone have an already built laser i can borrow to play with? If anyone here would like to build me one and send it I'd appreciate it. If not i can certainly purchase one from any links you all provide. I'm not sure the price they go for but I'm sure it can't be that much. Thank you all for enlightening me that lasers can harm people because it slipped my mind and i feel silly about it

I simply can´t believe.

Hope you NEVER get a laser in your hands!

Thanks for the link Tech_Junkie. I am also a noob, but I am looking to learn more. Don't worry, I DON'T plan on building a light saber! ;)

You cannot build a laser with tape and glue. I'm sorry to say, but the fact that you don't liketo read will get you nowhere here. You HAVE to read. T_Js post is a great place to start.
Lasers in your price range and experience level *will NOT* slice matchsticks. You have to get pretty high in the price and mW/W scale. It'll burn in, but even a 1W laser wot slice a match like youre thinking. Sure, it'll eventually cut the match, but you can't just run the match through the beam and have it be "sliced." it'll be burnt, and the cut won't be clean.
Anyway, read. I had a problem with reading when I first came here, and I got flamed. So I read, and it hasn't happened since. Learn, and you won't get yelled at.
