New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green **3/2011 batch is here!**

Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay

I picked up 10 of these. The divergence is "normal" for a 405nm fixed-focus pen laser.

Nine out of the 10 metered at 40-50mW. One metered at 57mW

Peace,
dave

Post 1: Nice, wow, just curious, what do you do with 10 of these things 0_0
Post 2: looks like you have a 995 ebay rating at 100% :P, your the only one that bought 10 of them
Post 3: I am not sure about this, but these do not have an IR filter, and doesn't that register on the meter when you go to test them? which can throw off the results?

Re: New Stock of Overspec 5mW Green

Okay, just got my third order. Unfortunately, one of them seems to have crapped out after just a few seconds of use. It started nice and bright, and now it dims to a level that's not even as bright as my 0.000000000001mW cheap dollar store red pen.

And my second order - both had the dimming issue that was prevalent in that entire batch.

I'd like to return these three. I PM-ed you - no response in a few days. How should I go about returning these?

Just go ahead and send them back to me I'll replace them when I get them. I must've read the PM then forgotten about it sorry :P I've been really really busy the past few weeks. Barely any free time at all.

Re: I need a simple red module

Well is green too expensive you're saying? Or too bright? You can get a green laser for $6-7 shipped from china. 5mW of green will be much brighter than even 20mW of red.

Wow really? I would not have expected that a 5mw green would be brighter than a 20mw red! It's not really a price problem, it's just the project is really simple. But if I can get a 5mw green for $6-7 then I would definitely rather do that over $12 for a red! As long as it's reliable! What seller are you talking about? And do you know of the quality?

Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay

Bad news folks.

Right after my posting the unit shot craps. I think it might have to do with using the 10440's instead of normal AAA's. If anyone has input on this let me know.

Anyway if itemquickship does not want to exchange it I will probably tear the module out and put in a better one.

Bummer:cryyy:

I was really wondering what the effect would be of using those batteries, though I rather expected that would be the result. Was too chicken to test it myself though :p

It's only $9 dollars. And I an not 100% positive that killed it. Wanting to know if anyone else has tried this or knows the diode/module cant handle it before I truly accept that conclusion. Maybe Daguin has some info since he had a few of these and is pretty knowledgeable about these things. Sent him a PM.

Ordered another this time in the green violet combo. More info to come.

Does anyone know of a good module that this host can handle?

I'm pretty sure these are meant for 2x AA's. That's like 3V with fresh batters. 2 of those lithium batteries will give you over 8V at full charge.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I think if you used one you might be alright for a little while, but I'm not really sure, you would have to measure it on the module.

I do realize that I increased the voltage considerably. But I did have it on for the most part continually during the pics that I was taking about 5 minutes. So I was thinking that may also have been what did it.

Did not think about only using one. That might be a good Idea when I get my new ones.

Anybody know where i could get a diode/module 405nm around 100mW that would fit in this pen host?

Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay

sweet, have you metered that laser, or has anyone, I read through the forum and it looked more like assumptions of what power it has, have you tried to light a match with it yet?

I got mine in this morning, I dont have a meter but I will say that I'm happy with 'em both.

The 532 beam is barely visible in the dark, but does have a nice bright dot.

The 405 beam is visible in the dark, the dot is irritating on a white sheet of paper and it will go through a very thin black plastic bag in about 10 seconds.

I was not expecting the 405 to be as bright as it is, so I will be waiting for my YLW glasses to show up before I play with it some more.

This was using some cheep AAA batteries I've had laying around for about a year.

Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay

So far I've ordered 5 green/blue combos for 15.88each and sold the green out of each set (in 1 day) for 20 bucks each and kept the blue. So basically I was paid $4 for each blue. I didn't want to sell the blues because they are not idiot friendly. I am thinking about buying 10 of the greens for 8each and selling them for 20each. I sold my soul a long time ago.:eg:

WTB: Anyone got an old 593.5nm/589nm they're done with?

593.5nm is effectively obsolete to most sensible people, but being one of the rare few "full-wavelength-collection" whores that I am (and considering that I'm not quite ready to splurge >$1k on my ultimate 589nm yet), I would like to see if anyone here has an old (well not necessarily old :p) 593.5nm laser I can help you get off your hands.

Open to various 589nm models as well, if the price is right ;)

Thanks :yh:

-Chris
