New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode (NDG7475T)

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

It's probably not made for an specific projector, just developed for projectors in general (as they are the main application for high power multimode diodes).

As soon as one is found we should have a cheaper source (by an order of magnitude if we're lucky).

Im getting all giddy over here, thinking of <100$ one watt greens!

This is all I've got. Will update OP.

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

I wonder how good the divergence will get after correction. I think it sadly will not get close to the DPSS. Otherwhise it would be to good to be true

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

Divergence wise it probably won't, but it will kick ass on stability, ease of build and price :)

It won't be like DPSS sadly, but not unexpectedly. I think we can expect similar divergence to an a140(first generation class IV blue), but no worse than the mits 638. I believe 11/46 was standard divergence, but as low as 5/35 deg is possible iirc

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

It was my understanding that the angle doesn't matter as long as the fast and slow axes have similar angles. That way a regular lens can collimate the beam. If they're different the beam will be more line-like. Am I wrong?

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

Yes it will be more line like, but the divergence will still be better technically (more focusable) I have an m140 with a similar ratio (12-13x2mm @ 3 meters) and it works fine. It is true such a divergence might not work great with standard 3 elements but i'm not too sure about the topic of different lenses personally. I know that lenses can be made to work with such divergences

Bet that is one fat die with it being off center like that.

No that is correct. The LOC red diodes (LPC-815) are around 10 and 16 degrees respective to their axes and we know that their beams are much better.

It becomes a problem, though when you have a 46 degree divergence angle and you need to fit the beam into the aperture of a lens that is only 4mm diameter.
