New high power 405nm diode?

Could this be the 4x Diode?
I doubt it.

Also, the advantage of having a diode with a datasheet is worth the extra $30 in its own right. No more guessing about current, power output and such. That alone will help most people keep their diodes alive instead of killing them with excess current.

Ahhh yes send your money to Standstone11 (Susie) and trust her, that went real well last time around  :o :o

I disagree, take the L Open Can for example we don't have a datasheet, but we all know what to expect from it. ;)

And the 16x Sony Diode, according to its datasheet 80mW CW and 180mW pulse, but we run it over 200mW CW. :o

That is a bit unfair electron. I know that you had a bad experiance, by no-one else has at all. In fact most other people have recieved overspec units. So please think a bit more before you say things like that

i seem to only recall one person out of dozens of orders who have had any issues with her product. Seeing how abrasive you are electron, i'm not surprised there was a miscommunication between you two. That being said, there is no need to use a forum search for susie or sandstone everyday and weigh in with sarcasm about her products at every opportunity (at least that appears to be the case). You already had 5 people ding her rep for your one bad experience starting with everyone's favorite seller Wesdaman14.

Why don't you let us find out if these diodes are what she says they are before you continue your vendetta. If they aren't then you can rant, rave, and savor an 'I told you so' moment. In the mean time I think finding a good source for 6x diodes is a better use of time.

If we can get the 4x for little over $40 I don't see why I want to pay $30 more for a Diode with longer legs. ::)

No, it's not even similar to the 4x. I'm starting to have my doubts about the 4x being the 105mW Sharp. That's probably still the 6x. God only knows what the 4x is. Could be 80mW...

But the diode from the Nichia datasheet is a new, previously unknown diode, that could be as powerful as the 6x. I know for sure, that this diode (at least the one in the datasheet) is a new one, because there are "mechanical" differences from all the other diodes we've seen so far.

Electron, i really hope you are wrong in this case (and for your sake as well!), and i want to give Susie a chance to proove this diode is real.

I just want to find a good diode (for you too, among others, don't forget), in case we can't get the 6x's just yet....

This is not a green laser, where a million things can go wrong even with the best manufacturers, never mind the cheap ones..
This is just a diode, that Susie may have stumbled upon by pure luck. It either is, or isn't real. If it is, that's good news for all of us! If it isn't, we're back where we started.

I'm gonna wait for Susie to send me the full datasheet, and try to arrange some samples for testing, and we can go from there.

This information has been obtained by guesswork and experimentation. If you were an engineer using an open-can in a design, using values that were obtained by guesswork and experimentation would be unacceptable if you want to guarantee long term reliability.

In the world of electronics, datasheets define how a component should be treated. As many people who work on computers know, CPUs can be pushed well past their rated value in terms of clock frequency and voltage, but you ALWAYS trade long-term stability for this extra "power". There are no exceptions to this rule. Laser diodes and all other electronic components are the same way. As a hobbyist it all boils down to whether or not you're comfortable with the trade-off. If you're OK with running your open-can at 420mA, that's fine just don't expect it to live anywhere near as long as it really should.

As an electronics engineer I can tell you that for me, anything but 100% reliability is unacceptable. This is why a datasheet for these diodes would be golden as far as I'm concerned. No more guesswork. Guesswork is the enemy of good electronics design.. what you really want is good math and solid factual specifications, neither of which has been available to the LPF on any harvested diodes to date..

Regarding the "Sony" diode, how do you know, beyond ALL doubt that the datasheet you saw is in fact the true datasheet? Just because it is in a Sony drive doesn't necessarily mean it's a Sony diode. The fact remains, no one here knows anything concrete about any of the diodes that we harvest.

ElectroFreak:

The Sony diodes TheMonk mentioned, come with a datasheet, from Senkat... That's why that's one diode, that we have a datasheet for...

But i've been saying the same thing for a while now - i'd absolutelly love to have a 405nm diode WITH a datasheet. If you wish this too hard, you can then imagine, that the PHR is the 105mW Sharp diode, as many people believed for a long time (and some still do), altho by now, it's 100% sure that the PHR is NOT nearly a 105mW diode.

Anyway, if both 6x's and the Nichia diode were available now, and for the same price, i'd go with the 6x's, because by now i know that diode a little bit. But of course, i would at the same time buy this one, for testing and comparison. ;)

Apologies TheMonk. I stand corrected.

Please check yourself, I have NOT been using the forum search for any post by her; when was the last time I posted about her??
In-fact I've had very little time in the last month or so to make that many posts, let alone try and follow one person around.

I simply was reading the thread for 405nm diodes which I have an interest in, plain and simple.

AND I do stand by my statements about Standstone11 who forced me to take the situation public, otherwise refusing to refund the money; nothing can/will change that fact.....and yes I'm sure she's being very careful for now on.

Ok we have to make a minimum order of 100 diodes right? But how do we do that when the website say's there is onnly 10 available :-/ :-/?????????????????

I hope you understand this the right way......but in any case IF any of my money is to be spent on any components purchased through standstone11 (susie) regardless of how the parts test-out, then I opt out of the build with you.  I won't have her benefit from 1 red cent of my hard earned cash; she made her bed and she can lay in it.  I'd rather do without a particular laser or component and I'd be much more content knowing she isn't getting anymore of my cash, directly or indirectly. doesn't matter; same thing to me. I think you understand were I'm coming from.

Peace

Well, in that case, i hope for your sake, that someone finds a 6x source. I'm just trying to do you a favor here.. And i saw this as a possible alternative, if something doesn't happen in the 6x department soon.

I'm feeling pretty good about this I know we've been lied to but it really looks good. Longer pins and a data sheet Is quite amazing for 75 dollars. I don't buy till I'm sure about something.

Yes based on the post above I'm quoting, I think she's lied also, wouldn't surprise me one bit; give it a couple of days, and I'm sure she'll find a way to back peddle on it.  :-/
