New Generation 445nm Diodes: Nichia NDB7A75

Dam this is a groundbreaking year transition, with the 1W 520nm in december and now the 3.5 watt 445nm!

GREAT! WOOP! We should be able to push these at LEAST 5-6 watts.

Worst case scenario these will stay as expensive as the 5 watt FAC diodes. Hope not.

No way, these will absolutely replace the current 9mm diodes on projectors. It's a lot cheaper for projector makers to make everything with less optics, diodes and electronics. Prices will drop very, very quickly :)

Edit: techhood has another new diode, the NDB7775:

Looks pretty much the same as the old NDB7875, except for the minimum power (1.4W instead of 1.1W).

IMO it would be funny if in a few months DTR ships those out without anyone knowing what they can do.:crackup:

Imagine it same size nearly the same divergence and 3.5W at 2.3A :thinking:
Why not just an efficient regular 9mm? :crackup:

OK OK the Pins are no longer centered on the new 9mm and PJ would be more expensive and/or have less diodes but a funny idea ;)
 
Aah, so the fabled 6W 445's finally show their facets. Maybe!? To be honest, I personally would be a bit nervous with one of these new diodes. The 3.5W one I have now already burns everything it touches. Very cool? Yes! A little too dangerous? Maybe just a bit.

Can't wait to see the results of these for sure.
 
I hear people saying this diode is too scary. I personally wouldn't fear the handheld this was made into. Just the potential moron behind it.

With great power comes great responsibility. Not really a star wars fan (not at all,"ducks") but it applies here for sure.
 
I have an Assault Phaser housing that I've been saving for the day that a 4 Watt or better Blue diode became available. It appears that that day has come! Now it's just a matter of $. I can't wait!

No, i didn't. I would have and was going to; but the diode LED'd on me rather quickly so I decided not too. They are a bit better than the 5.6mm 405's, but in my opinion not any hardier. I've played with plenty 405's and I am thru with them as far as High-output builds go at least.
 
It will be perfect for my fan cooled Stingray 3

I don't see it as "too powerful" and a game changer as far as laws go at all. After all, it is a short range multi mode which is only x2 more powerful than the previous blue many of us have (1-3.5W).
If that diode was not a "law changer" being 4x even 5x more powerful than any of the previous ones, than why should this be.

If it was a 4-5W single mode diode, it would truly burn most of the things on its path, and it would be quite long range. Than that would be a different story.

The multimode part limits the range a bunch.

Hi Mike! I'm around lately as i wanted to sell few things related which i don't need anymore.

I also like to check and see (hopefully) threads just like this one. I am simply not satisfied with my current power/range of M140 diode. I guess I'll never stop ...:-)

How much hotter will these diodes get than the previous generation?

That would be dangerous in the wrong hands for sure, but not much moreso than a 2w 445 for the same price. I don't think most of the wrong people would bother spending that much on such a laser thankfully.
