New 2w 808nm Handheld Laser

LikeitBright - The laser is positive ground, as is the diode, so there is no need to isolate the diode electrically. A negative side regulator is used.  DX SKU 1886. These regulators don't like having an output cap in the circuit.
Excellent.  So no other electrical componentry is added in your build? By diode you mean the Led these drivers are designed to drive?

I know this thread is kinda old but I have a question about this laser or any 2w laser. I saw in your video you were able to cut solder, just wondering how far fecthed it would be to solder with it? And would it make soldering more precise/possibly better using a laser? I became very intrigued watching your laser cut the solder.

This may not be too far fetched. SMT resistors, for instance, are very small. 2w is not a lot of heat, but the tiny dot of solder required doesn't need a lot of heat. Might prove to be easier than using an iron, when repairing or modding something. Interesting idea.

bill, I heard of someone possibly using a laser to solder. What I was thinking was using a 3w LD(If I can find one) and trying to hook it up to a type of "dimmer" switch so I can use the laser through out a range of mW to 3W. But right now its only a thought.

A High power invisible laser hitting a highly reflective unstable substance. What could go wrong?

Obviously goggles are a must, but I could imagine if the laser is built well enough it could be pretty precise.

I have only just come across this thread, kudos on the laser barrel, very impressivelaser!

Please do make a post if you're going to sell these :D I will buy one.

I'm afraid that I don't make lasers for sale. However, it will soon be much easier to make one yourself ...
You would need :

2w 808nm c-mount from ebay
2 x 1400ma current regulator from DX
1 x 18650 lithium battery from DX
1 of the upcoming c-mount laser barrels from Kenom (LPF)
lens
switch

I saw mention of 3W diodes for $70 available on eBay, perhaps this casing could handle it?

Also do you have a tutorial? :)

Snoctony doesn't sell diodes anymore :-?

Would anyone else be willing to build and sell these? I have no experience building lasers, and I wouldn't want to begin on something this powerful.

why does it require 2 current regulators from DX?  Why not just 1?

I was just on Ebay and found out why?

2800mA operating current!!! So do you just hook up the 2 regulators in parellel?

Hey lordoflasers fancy making some for us who want to buy one? :D
