Ok, like I assumed. So, in a 50mW 503nm, how much IR can be expected to be emitted? I'm sure there is a simple figure via math. But, I don't know the formula personally.

I am thinking about pot modding my fasttech module....how much should I turn the pot and in what direction? I estimate I am probably getting around 60mW right now.

I pot modded ALL (5) of mine and NO deaths, although I don't have an LPM yet I would say they all went up in output considerably.

You just turn it ANTI-CLOCKWISE and I just get the flat side of the pot to face the diode, I don't really want to risk turning it anymore then that. And when its turned up that much the components on the driver get pretty warm

Yeah I pot modded all of mine. Doesn't take much to get it to its max. On some mine were just 1/16th of a turn some where more. I just did it well pointing it at my LPM till I got them close to 100mW.

K, so I just pot modded my laser only to realize my batteries are worn out. (I don't remember the last time I charged them)....so now I get to wait for my batteries to charge so I can see if I got any noticeable improvement.

I turned mine CCW approximately 45 degrees, or 1/8th of a full rotation. We'll see how it went.

Ok, so...Call me safety clown, but I've read so many things about NOT pot modding...I've got a delicate touch, and I adjust drivers already.

What say you, gang? Should I give it a shot?

Sure! It is pretty easy....I am still pretty new to electronics work, but i simply used a small electronics screwdriver to turn the pot counterclockwise a small amount. These seem to be able to take the increase in current so I would say there is low risk.

If you feel your module is close to or at 100mW I would urge you to stop there however. I wouldn't trust these up much higher, and to throw away such good luck would be something I imagine you would regret, if only slightly.

PS - I pot modded my laser. At first it was really unstable and would go up sharply in power when turned on and then drop in power considerably. I figured that was bad so I turned the pot down. After that it wouldn't turn on....but I thought it might be just that the pot was turned too low so it wasn't getting power. So I turned it up. It is brighter than it was to begin with and I am gonna stop turning things now :p

You could use a DMM to measure the input current. Most green module have the maximum output at 400mA. Any higher and it won't give more green light. It even starts decreasing the output due the increase heatup of the diode.

^ Oh hell! Did you measure the current directly through the 400mA range on your meter? You may have blown the fuses. Go to the 10A fused range!

They won't even turn on. They died a while back, never have gone to get a replacement.

Radioshack...$35.99. I just don't trust the cheap Chinese ones at HF or other places.
