Hey, I'm here [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

So, yes, the 3rd pin can be soldered to either pad on the underside, they're not connected to anything, just there to solder a spare pin to.

As for the length, they should all be about the same size, which should fit entirely in the Aixiz module, but it's a tight fit. The interior of the module is about 19.5mm exactly, and my boards are just under 18mm (somewhere around 17.5mm), so there should be 1-2mm of clearance. If you're saying that it is 18mm, then it should be the right size and should fit. Are you sure the board is tight up against the part where the diode is pressed in? Also, I usually pinch the wires close to the board to prevent them from adding any length to the board, did I forget that on yours? If so, you can just make it look like the pictures I have in the first post. Also, take a look in the module back, I've had some that have had blobs of thermal epoxy that needed scraped out before things would fit.

So, take a look through my suggestions and let me know if that fixes it, otherwise, I'll see what else I can come up with.

the wires are pinched actually, might be able to push them above the board a little more maybe. i'll try putting it all together again later and i'll tell you how it works out ;D

Ok, cool... do you have a caliper or something you can get a measurement of the inside of the module? Or, measure the length of the back and then the length of the threads on the head (where the back screws onto), subtract the two and you get the inner length. My modules backs are 22.5mm, threads are 3mm.

why is mine such a midget? lol the back is only 19.5mm, head thread is 3mm, board is 17.5mm. technically only 1mm short, but i can't screw it in at all. dunno

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Well, hmm, that's odd.

You could try cutting the back off like daguin said, or you could trim the board a bit. At the part of the board where you solder the diode on, the pads are about 2mm long. You could trim 1mm off without any problem, it just may be tougher to get the the soldering iron in there to mount the diode again. Other than that, I'm not sure there's anything else to do :-/

You could also try getting a longer module back. I have a couple extra, if you feel you need it.

As I posted a bit earlier, Senkat was talking about the lower Quality Control of the aiXiz modules he has received lately. Some of them are just shorter. We may just have to keep this in mind.

Peace,
dave

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Dave - I have even received ones that are simply a tube - no "closure" around that back side - just completley open - Aixiz is not only sucking big time in QA issues, but their communications skills leave a helluva lot to be desired. Freaking jerks - too bad they are the only game in town - everyone on here knows how "patient" I am <HAHAHAHAHA> and when it takes a week or more to ship via Priority mail, when they are less than a three hour drive away from me - it pisses me off !

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

I've made a note in my first 2 posts about the inconsistencies. Hopefully it's relatively rare and Aixiz (or whoever makes them) doesn't continue to manufacture them poorly.

Does anyone know if this has affected the modules from DealExtreme?

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

i never did get it to fit lol and i didn't have the proper tools to cut the back out. but regardless i have 200mW red now and it's awesome ;D

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

BAM! Like 3 days shipping. Thanks a lot rkcstr.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Received my drivers today, thanks rkcstr. They look solid and though I haven't tried them yet I'm confident they will work great. They fit nicely in my aixiz housings as well. My only criticism is the single stranded wires; in my experience they are prone to breaking and somewhat difficult to work with. It's hardly a big issue however, and I doubt I will replace them even though it's very easy to do so.

as long as you aren't bending the wires constantly they'll be perfectly fine

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Any chance I'll get mine before the weekend?

No rush, just asking. Looking forward to trying them.

The reason I use solid core is it makes assembly much easier, but it's easily changed, so if someone would prefer stranded, I can do it.  I doubt there will be any issues with the wire breaking though, the back of the module should act like a strain relief to prevent any breakage at the board.

Mailed them this afternoon, so it's very likely you will.  USPS says 3-5 days for First-Class, and 5 days would be Sat.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Service is as good as you claim, wow!~!~!

Thanks, I'm not used to that.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Hey there,

I got a tracking number from paypal and I've checked it a few times now, but it's saying "There is no record of this item."

I wasn't really expecting such cheap shipping to be tracked at all, so it's not really a big deal, but I'd just like to confirm if you've mailed yet or not.

Thanks!
