Re: my 445 build

i'll tell ya what.... things move quickly around here.

thanks. it was my first one that I actually took my time on and worried about the actually astetics and not just laser.

michael.

Re: my 445 build

Hey all just put mine together :) in a temporary host till i get my 18650 host in and a Micro BoostDrive .I used a Micro FlexDrive v5 and set it at 520mA. I dont have a meter to test mW. Took a Few Pics Once I Get the 18650 host in iam going to bumb it up.:D

Quick Video of Beam in to the dark night sky. I was standing on my second floor porch. Sorry for the darkness everyone. :)

520mA

Super excited :D everything except the goggles and lens shipped today, my build should be pretty much done soon.

Just as an update. Plastic lenses are good for a momentary test but I highly recommend glass. My plastic lens has not seen too much use and it is already melted and distorting the laser spot BIG TIME. I should be finally receiving my glass lenses Friday or Saturday.

Hey, what's the maximum current you'd recommend for a jayrob 18650 host with the copper heatsink? I currently have it set to 700mA, but after seeing all these tests by other people, I'm wondering if I should go a little higher (like 800-900mA).

How much heatsinking is required at different currents?

And for those who've built one, what are your duty cycles for these lasers?

I think it would be just fine at max current for a Micro BoostDrive...

For duty, you'll just have to get a 'feel' for it. I'm sure you could leave it on for a minute, but then the heatsink would take a few minutes to cool back down.

Even at 30 seconds on / 30 seconds off repeatedly for several times in a row, I'm sure you will feel the host warming up in your hand...

update for me... i have pushed it to 1 amp. in honer of that feat i have decided to return to the originally intended host(see previous page)! just some minor adjustments do be made and its done. then i will get some more pics up. :D

YES! I'm done. It's at 660mA right now but I'm gonna push it up to an amp. I should have a glass lens coming soon. BTW, you must be CAREFUL! Since I don't have goggles yet I've only used this pointed at a dull black surface in my garage, but my eyes felt strained for a few minutes. On top of that, even at powers of only ~500mW, this will still heat up your skin! I closed my eyes and put my hand in front of the beam, it felt warm after about half a second and then I moved when it started feeling hot. The dot shape is ugly, but not noticeable when it's focused. I'm definitely glad I made this!

I've got mine up to 1.05A now :D
Shows up very white/purple on my camera though :undecided:

^very nice. The difference between an amp and ~.6 amp is HUGE. I can't wait for a 405 lens. Is there any way to stick the lens from the projector in an aixiz module?

Yes, I but its horrible for our application...It makes a dot and a lot of mess...405 lens is far better.

My first beam shots from jay's 18650 kit. Running 650mA, I did 1A on lab units.

Fat beam for the win?

I just looked at the lens comparison thread. YUCK. I can't wait for the 405 lens, even more power!!! :D

If it's power your after, the 405-G-1 is best. And it's not a bad look either...

But at about 15% less power, the AixiZ 405 lens gives a better looking dot. (shorter line)

Has anyone put this to a thermal cam? I put this to the end of my digital multimeter thermal probe, and by holding with with hand (not stable) i got it to 533F and still growing...At focus! Should mean I can melt solder xD

I've melted solder with mine ;)
