Mech Mods and DTR laser can

Look like this thread is gaining a little traction I would love to see what you guys can come up with please show your pictures when you get some thing done

I'm starting to like these mech mods:) So will my so called local smoke shop carry a good selection? You have to understand I kinda haven't been out of the house for a couple weeks.

I got my 22mm nodule/heat sink from DTR in my mailbox just now and threw an old boost driven 1w 445 in it, these look cool and the focus ring fits the lens and that's a nice deal, but you have to ground to the case and the positive solder point is no problem if you have some practice, but if not you may want to buy them pre build from DTR.

Sorry for the crummy pic, I'm doing 3 things at once here.

It'll probably be marked up a lot in there. There's a website called fasttech that has hundreds of cheep mech mods of all designs.

I bought my first Aspire CF Mod from a local vape store. I already had a DTR 22mm module so I paid twice as much to get it in my hand instantly. At the time I didn't know I was paying that much but Red's right, you'll pay a premium getting it locally. It was the only side fire tube style they had. Got lucky with the make/model with all those features. Store employees said people are moving over to the box vapes, round ones are phasing out - at least locally.

The 5 click lock/unlock is nice, it also has a 10 second protection, so if you stay on for 10 seconds straight it will make you wait 5 seconds before letting it light again, but if you do 3 or 6 second bursts it stops counting, it's a good feature.

BE AWARE While clicking 5 times to lock it, the unit will energize, that is it will be on while locking, but won't come back on until unlocked, ALWAYS POINT IT IN A SAFE DIRECTION and WEAR SAFETY GLASSES

There are many choices and you can get the 22mm modules from DTR pre loaded with diode and driver, they are fun and I want to collect the single modes red and green mitsu 180 and nichia 4216, the BDR-209 is impressive.

Remember Safety First. These are not toys. ;)

I have done some really trick builds where I drill a screwdriver hole through one side so the ground lug can be attached during assembly, that all gets covered by the outer sheath and nice hand fitted parts, and then when I tear it down later to use part in something else it's like, dang I really over engineered that, I could have just pinched it. LOL

That is easier than a ground lug, I like that.
I buy my set screws by the 100 lot otherwise I end up making a flathead set from a 6/32 or 8/32...actually I have gone to 8/32 pretty much everywhere because 6/32 taps are so brittle now, I have some old ones that are great, but the ones I get now are just no good, and I back out every 3 turns and take my time.

Oh well, I need to order some cap heads and bugle/countersink head screws so everything I do doesn't look like a 1920's farm build.

Hi Red,
thanks a lot for the reply vey helpful on the subject. i like drilling and tapping items take your time , it comes out sweet. And yes to the drill and tap comment they don't make really good tools in that form.

Rich:)

Here's to hoping nobody picks one up thinking it's a vape and wammo!

Put your things away when you are not using them and take the battery out.

if any one wants to surprise me for my birthday I like 520 lol jk that really looks good thanks for posting

@Rokakku thanks for the sight
@Onvi, then i'm staying from all local stores to give the ocd a break!
@VV, Yup picking up one mech mod thinking its the vape could end up being a disaster:eek:
Now for some more noobie questions. RedC mentioned a over 10 sec lock out of some type. How are the mech mods button set up when you vape.? Does it do a "puff" every time you press it or a constant flow while the button is pressed?
So if you do put a laser module on it will it stay on as long as the button is pressed?:o

Yes that's right Peter, it stays on as long as you press the button.

I'll share my collection here instead of making a new thread.
Apart from the http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/greek-poldiac-405nm-bluray-trail-blazer-95712.html I've been collecting other Mech Mods over time. The latest being the Aspire.

pro_2A2A1416.jpg

They're very versatile modules and you can screw and unscrew from body to body.

My collection of 510 threaded modules are as follow, which I bought from DTR last year.
A 638nm 700mW red Oclaro
A gorgeous 520nm 1W
A 465nm 4W
And a pair of the awesome 405nm BDR-209's

The beauty of this Aspire is that you can squeeze in two 16340's (the shorter 33.5mm ones) for a voltage of 8.2v so you can run the 638nm, 465nm and the 520nm at full power.
The batteries need to be the shorter ones though as the longer ones just don't fit.
And they work well with the Aspire.
The 405nm is the only one that takes one 18650 only, as it works on around 4.2v. (two 16340's will blow it fast)

And just for kicks, I filled the Red Aspire with Compressed Helium and let it float.

Hope you enjoy.
I love my collection, I'll probably buy the silver Aspire too.
And I'll add some photos of my other unusual Mech Mods soon too.

Very nice RB. Thanks for posting. Seeing all these really makes me want to get one, but I don't know that I'd put the sub 200mW diodes I've got in one. Maybe if I can get one of the 462-465nm diodes or the mysterious new Nubm47.
