Max output for a 635 nm laser, while affordable?

Could you at least pm me telling me who you got the doa diode from? I'd like to try someone different before trying the same person as you rhd

Same source you were looking at.
PM me if needed.

Avnet purchase should be arriving tomorrow (Thursday) morning :)

Nice. A few questions: Do they accept PayPal? Do they ship to Europe? If so, what service do they use?

Johny: I don't think they take Paypal. Most real electronics component companies (Digikey, Mouser, etc) don't. But they take credit card, so it's all good. Not sure on shipping to Europe. I'd say just check them out.

JakeGT: Kind of deadly, but also kind of not. It was $22. However, it's going from the US to Canada, and it is supposedly "overnight" UPS shipping. So in that respect, it's actually not bad for $22 (though they didn't give me any other option)

Shipped @ 9:00 pm last night: Arizona
Current @ 8:20 am this morning: Montreal Canada

It's only got 1,000 or so more km to go to reach me, so I think it might actually BE overnight shipping. Would be awesome to receive it today :)
The real tragedy here, is that I've already built in the beautiful Ray J Neal host I was going to use it in. So I think this will be going inside a red Guidesman.

What driver are you gonna use? And battery combo? Or is that for show and tell later?

Hm. $90 shipping to Europe with FedEx. I guess I will attend to build it when I finish my SF-AW210.

Honestly, I'll probably go back to LM317 for this one.

How crazy eh? To retreat to the cheapest driver we have, for the most expensive diode I've purchased! It just feels the safest to me though. In fact, I don't think I have an LM317s here, so I'll probably go LM338 just because I have some.

LM317 heats up like hell at triple Li-ion voltages. Two should be more than enough. (2x 16340 in an 18650 host?)

I thought he was using a guidesman 2, and was just randomly thinking 3x10440 haha.

Well, I attempted to use LM317 and PHR in 3x 10440 Hotlights. Not only the driver shorted and fried the diode, but it also melted (!) the inside plastic pill. So, if you do LM317, (or 1117 for that matter) I suggest a PCB strongly.
