No harm in asking. If all I get is a lame CD reader, it still gets used for practice soldering/harvesting. Plus, free PBS cube!

I know how to solder. Any moron can solder with a little practice. I have a back injury and it screwed up my nerves. When you injure your back it effects your Dermatomes. So my hands shake. They shake even more trying to do precise actions. I had to stop tattooing also, which was my main side work income. Unfortunately you have to be able to solder in this hobby, and I'm not going to risk throwing diodes in the trash in hopes I get it right.

@nDrew. Whats the last thing you contributed? Its just lately that you've actually helped someone, and I'm sure its just to get your banner shown.

I've been watching the LPC-826 on here and elsewhere. However, for the initially higher price and the unknown factor. Plus having a questionably better output. I can't see it.

The price is down, but without better output I don't see a MAJOR advantage. I could buy an older LOC or one of these and on an individual basis the older one MIGHT have stronger beam.

Now get something over 500mw in a 5.6 can and I think everyone would be instantly all over it. Instead this seems a little hum-drum, IMHO.

The latest data i've seen on them shows ~350mW raw output from the 826's. Which equates to around 330mW or so with a decent lens.

I doubt a 815 LOC will last long doing 330mW.

^At what currant.? I have a few here but have not fired them up yet.:(

Has there been a set MAX "safe" Currant for these diodes yet.?

Got It.:) Thanks. Ill set it to 550mA and see what it puts out.:) I will update once my host comes in.:)

Update: I found these for only 13 dollars here:
LPC-826 laser diode 650-660nm 250-300mW [M0023] - $12.99 : Modwerx Shop

vs the lpc-815 which is about 11 dollars from hightechdealz. Ill pay the extra 2 dollars at some point to have a go with this diode.

If its worth it to you... We've done some pretty extenstive testing on the 826 diodes here, and their max optical output is equal or less than that of the 815. One major benefit is that they tolerate overcurrent much better by dimming rather than blowing up.

I still need a LPM, a simple one would be fine for my needs. I really want to test some of my lasers. Anyway, I am sure I could give this diode a shot, I like the idea of being easy going on over current as I would want to run it on the edge but not have it go LED by 1ma too high as a LPC-815 does. Plus, this diode is only 13 dollars vs the LPC-815 which is 11 and you have to harvest it out of its heatsink that now covers the whole diode and risk getting metal shavings on the laser from open can. Just my laziness due to bad luck with lasers.

Mine came in last saterday i picked it up today
So 1 lil question , can i run it on 600mA max ! or should i keep it @ 450 - 500 mA for a long lifetime ?

So whats up with these...just that they are cheap??? no exotic wavelength I take it...just cheap, and in the 300mw range
