Looking to buy my 1st Handheld 1W Laser

hey guys,
i must say i found this (lasers and light beams) topic really interesting and i think i just found a new hobby :P

btw please excuse me if i'm posting in the wrong forum, i'm really confused:

1. does the color of the beam actually means something about the beam type or strength?
i know there are Blue, Red, Green. whats the differences between them except for colors?
2. what's the *SOMENUMBER* nm i've seen many times after the mW or W ?
3. where can i learn more about visible light?

anyway, i'm looking to but my 1st Handheld 1W Laser.
after searching i found two major lasers:

1. Wicked Lasers Arctic Spyder 3 - $299.95

2. DragonLight Spartan Series 1W Blue Handheld Laser, Rectangle Beam

I Saw Compare Video @ youtube and the Spartan have won them all.
I know they both are very similar but Which one of them is better?

Is there anymore 1W lasers i might want to consider?

another question is, howcome the Spartan Series 200mW Green Costs More then the 1W one -> DragonLight Spartan Series 1W
?

hoping to get answers soon enough so i could order..thanks guys.

No, because I don't own any of those lasers.
They're both good though, and about the same power.

You could build yourself a better one for less though.
The learning process to accomplish that will hopefully make you conscious about
the inherent danger involving class IV lasers.

Ok im new-ish here too and im still learning, and yes we all know the search button is there but sometimes finding something you dont know about is very hard..
So i would try to help :D

About the colours red, blue, green..
In the visible light spectrum, the human eye sees different light(wave lengths) differently..meaning that naturally our eyes see green easier or brighter..red and blue are much lower..google a light spectrum graph and you would see what i mean..
Anyways because of this, a low power green laser would seem much brighter and give the impression of being more powerful than the red or blue (of the same power), but in reality our eyes just see it better..
nm short for nanometer, it is the wavelength of the light and that is how we know the colour, like a red is 635nm, blue is 405nm and green is 532nm..so in the spectrum graph 532nm (green) is the "highest"..
You were asking about a 1watt laser, i am currently gathering parts to build a 1watt 445nm(blueish violet), but ive build red lasers before and building a blue 405nm too..these are much lower power and gives u good practice, because one screw up with a 1watt laser and you can loose your eyes..so take these guys advice and dont play with a 1watt laser since it would be your first laser..
About the mW (milliwatt) and W (Watt 1000mW), it basically tells u the power output..in some countries 5mW lasers are the legal limit, so most stores that sell cheap pointers will be 5mW and lower..
Before you try your hands at building a 1watt laser why dont u try building a cheap red burning laser, its kinda cheap and would be fun, also buy a cheap 5mW green of ebay(if you want), its like US$6 you wont regret it..and remember before you start building, read alot on this forum, otherwise you might end up like me, killing a bunch of diodes, not knowing what the hell im doing lol..i learn the hard way..Anyways, these are just my input..Just be careful..

If any of you guys think i stated anything wrong feel free to correct me, its no problem, im still learning..

what is the nm value for Black and White? (if this question is valid)

also, i'm not intending to build a 1W laser,
i want to buy one for first step, i already got a red one and a green 100mW one.
after "playing" (and i'm saying playing just because my English vocabulary is not very rich) with the one i'll buy, i'm now intending to start learning the concept behind how those things are built and try build one myself, as i said b4, i found this whole subject very interesting.

what is the nm value for Black and White?

Black and white doesnt fall in the spectrum..and a laser giving off black light is impossible there isnt such a thing..if by black light you are referring to the kind of light that makes certain colours glow (like ink money) then what you are talking about is a UV light..and that is 405nm..
About the white laser..it can be build..its very difficult (my opinion)..it is done by combining different colour lasers together to give off white light..do a search on white lasers and you'll see what i mean..its a very hard thing to do..

@Last One Left you did a pretty good job of explaining things, however you did get a bit of it wrong.

Red is in the 650nm range / 635nm is more orange.
Blue is 445nm range / 405nm is getting into UV.

if black light equals to UV, around 360nm it is UVA, fully invisible light.
You can achieve white light with a RGB combiner, red + green + blue laser. However, some say that is it achievable by other methods/wavelengths.

1W will screw up your vision. Both are bad if you haven't had any other lasers.

will screw my vision? only if will have direct or reflected contact with the beam...or i'm wrong?
certainly i'm going to use protection glasses :P

i already said, i had a green 100mW laser, got it a while ago and didn't even thought of researching the whole subject.
now that i have i really want to experience the BIG FISH hehe..

does anybody knows if the Spartan comes with a batteries and a charger?
the Arctic comes with a whole bunch of accessories though..
