Looking to buy my 1st Handheld 1W Laser

@Delorean Geek
I'm not calling no one a "noob". You don't have to ask our permission to own a laser, you can just buy. If anyone came here asking "where to buy a 1W laser", either the guy is blind or he is unsure of buying such a high power laser. If you need, you get it. Understood?

edit:
again what I'm trying to say.. people come here having no knowledge in lasers, thinking 1W is a low value, and go trying to get one. Most times they just want some advice, because if they aren't looking for advice, they would just go and buy the laser.

We love this hobby and want you to enjoy it as well, your misunderstanding us. You come here for advice and your not liking the advice your getting from the experience members like Anselm and Leodahsan, and instead are siding with people who are obviously "new" like yourself...

You can hurt your Vision and not even have to have a "Beam hit your Eyes" With a 1W....

You should Liston to people like "Anselm" They aren't trying to insult you, they were just making a point. And trying to Protect You. 1W should never be someones 1st laser "EVER". You can do what ever you want... Obviously. (and I still truly hope you don't live in the US) I find it hilarious that you ask advice and then argue with the advice your given from experienced members (I'm not talking about my self, I'm still "NEW"). I really agree with there advice tho....

mate, i didn't argue with Anselm for a second, i can't argue with him because i have no idea about lasers.

i respect the guys who take their time and replying on this topic to help me out, this is not an argument.

i came here to ask for advices and general opinions about the products i posted and the 1W lasers field.
i came here to be sure that i'm buying a product and know everything there is to know about it and about the risk involved using it.
thats why i'm here.

Well The advice still stands that you shouldn't get a 1W 445nm as your 1st laser.

Sense you sound like you don't want to heed that advice, Be Very Careful. Thats a powerful Laser. You should ware the Right Goggles made for that nm when your indoors and using it EVER, Or you risk hurting your Eyes and there Light sensitivity. Never look at the dot if your not using Goggles. Even the reflection can Blind You. Never let someone else use the laser, You will be surprised how dumb some people are when there ignorant to it's Power "No pun intended at yourself" All tho it made me chuckle a little....

Be Careful and I still think you should Not Get a 1W as your 1st laser....

I fully understand. I agree that most people just don't realize how dangerous a 1W(especially in the blue range) is. You know I was on youtube a few day ago loking for videos of the Arctic, on one video a question was posed n the comments:

"Is it OK for me to look at the "dot" while burning something?"<I'm assuming he had an Arctic

The answer was:
"You should be ok, just don't look at reflections from mirrors, etc"
That question was asked 3 months ago, no doubt that poor kid permanently screwed up his vision if he followed that advice.

@Delorean Geek
it is not OK to look the dot even when not burning. I looked one time at a dot, 4ft away from me and I got colorblind in the center of my vision.
luckly, it got better, no permanent damage.

@ALL
There is no reason to a noob get a 1W laser. PERIOD.
NO REASON

^^^I know, I was posting a question and answer that someone else had posted in youtube comments which shows all the bad misinformation there is out there.

You went partially colorblind after one look? I've looked a few times before I started always using my glasses, and have never had any problems. Maybe I just have strong eyes?:thinking:

That's true for most, but you have to admit that some noobs know what they're doing.

@Raiden Gekkou
What the noobs are doing? Give me one reason to own a 1W laser.
I got temporarily colorblind after one 'long' look, around 15 seconds. In a white wall near me...

15 seconds looking at the dot on a white wall, from 4 feet away? Damn, I haven't tried to burn anything, or look at the dot for that long. And especially not on something white, so maybe it'd happen to me if I did it too. But while there isn't a need for a 1W laser, there is a want for one, and as long as you follow the law and safety procedures, there's nothing wrong with that.

It was my first experimenting and I was considering myself "experienced" in lasers. Well, not on class IV...

Lets be safe ok? No recommending 1W lasers to no one, unless people that had lasers before.

But while there isn't a need for a 1W laser, there is a want for one, and as long as you follow the law and safety procedures, there's nothing wrong with that.
..... after you've collected some laser pointer experience with class 3A and 3B lasers.;)

@anselm
I can't see a class IV laser being of any use to any civilian etc.
Maybe someone in a LAB could use one..

Honestly dude, A 1W laser IS dangerous

And No ONE should get a 1W for there 1st laser, I don't get what you don't understand....

Yeah everyone could "WANT" a machine Gun. But if They have never handled a BB gun Before, Do you think that person should get a machine gun?

This is just like that. You need to have "Experience" With lasers to understand the safety involved. It's not just "don't shine the laser at any person". You have to understand that almost ANY surface can reflect enough to permanently harm your eye sight. It's a lot more dangerous than you think.

You can dismiss it off all you want. A 1 W laser is dangerous, and NO New person to lasers should Get one.

You can wait a Little to get used to lasers to then get one LATER. All the experienced members will agree that a 1W should never go to a new person to lasers.

We want you to enjoy the hobby and are trying to help you guys...

@ALL

BUT
YOU
JUST
DON'T
LEARN!

We are doomed to a disgraceful and horrid end of our hobby, where anyone caught with a laser will have it seized and *may* go jailed. Other countries where lasers are allowed (like PORTUGAL, Brazil, etc) will surely follow USA example and ban lasers too.

wake up...
