Between you selling lasers way over 5mw as 5mw and the fact that one of the pictures in your ebay listing shows you being hit in the face with a laser, I don't think your gonna do too well selling here.

Livinloud- sorry about the double post... Thanks for the heads up, I'm not trying to spam here just trying to get some honest feedback and suggestions.

Eradicator-Our lasers are just under 5mW but thank you for your concern. I am assuming that you noticed the vibrant beam on the pictures, there was a decent amount of smoke in the room to get that effect. Also we do not endorse the shining of laser pointers in anybody's eyes, that picture was taken by a friend of mine as well as most of the pictures in our gallery. My business partner insisted that we post the picture, however if we have enough people feeling strongly about it, we will take the picture down. We would like to focus the company not only on selling lasers, but educating the general public on them as well.
 
Education you say.......might first want to start leading by example and re-do all the photos while wearing safety glasses. That seems to be a huge problem with new laser owners and not knowing the dangers these lasers possess, even at low outputs.
How do you know these are <5mW?
What LPM are you using to test these?
How much IR are these units putting out?
Are you buying these off Chinese sellers and reselling them within the USA?
How were these lasers built?
What parts are you using in these builds?
These are all questions potential buyers are going to want to know and have proof of, especially if they are coming from here.

Oh and fire you business partner.......just kidding but you may want to at least take down the picture of the laser on your face. If you want to do a different time elapse shot, then don't use a human as a prop.

How are your lasers measured? What LPM are you using? Do you provide data logs and stats for the individual lasers? What exactly are you certifying? Why aren't you advertising laser safety eye wear? What makes your little pens any different from any other? Why are you using photos showing specifically dangerous uses (seemingly or real) in your advertising? Don't you consider this kind of advertising to be a detriment to the laser hobby community? Why no videos of your lasers being measured on LPMs?

Feedback? You're not ready and you're bad for the hobby. Stop selling lasers until you have respect for them AND the hobbyist community.
But, that's just one scumbag's opinion.
 
Was it an NIST-traceable recently calibrated LPM?

These lasers may be long on range, but they're short on something else.

Livinloud- The safety glasses idea is great, I'll order some this week. Yes even indirect eye contact at low outputs is dangerous. We were basing the output levels off of our manufacturers data sent to us. Yes it is a Chinese manufacture, I have hand tested about 500 but it was to test for defectiveness, not with an LPM. They have an IR filter but I am not sure of the IR output. I am going to see the manufacturer this summer so these are all great questions to forward onto them. I hope you will be happy to hear I have taken the picture down off eBay, I know not a solution to the safety glasses problem but a step in the right direction.

Scumbagatheist- They are measured at the factory in China and the data is sent to us. However I will be flying out there this summer to make sure their procedures are legitimate. I do not provide data logged stats for each individual laser pointer. We will be sure from now on to advertise safety eyewear thank you for the suggestion. Our advertising is flexible and although I believe they are creative pictures, I also believe after listening to you guys that we do need to incorporate safety glasses. I do have the utmost respect for lasers and the laser community and this is all great feedback. The only way to improve is to listen to experts such as yourself and continually improve the product and service.

I appreciate the solid feedback everybody! We will compile a list of questions for our manufacturer as well as invest in safety eyewear as well as an LPM. It was no joke when I mentioned this will be a company built by laser lovers, for laser lovers. You all have a say in what goes into the product, service, and website and we will do our best to make every voice heard.

well i am glad to see that you are taking the suggestions with an open mind. many times people get all offensive when suggestions are given and most the time they ask for suggestions to begin with. Also i am not sure if you are aware but it is real expensive to make a <5mW laser and most times manufactures will advertise them as <5mW but in reality they are more like 35-50mW even going up to 100mW

Check out the thread below as this was a cheap $4 ebay pen that clocked in over 85mW if iirc

This is why we stress safety and especially safety glasses because even though it is advertised as <5mW, its really a ~50MW+ killer......it is very easy to fake documentation from a manufacture saying it is <5mW so it wouldn't surprise me if you were using 40mW+ lasers and the manufacture was giving you a "stock" spec sheet.
 
Look, these powers that you're actually going to get from your manufacturer are fine. But, you may have FDA trouble if you LPM them. If you want a business model, Get your modules, individually test them, and then sell them unassembled in a fine host/heatsink kit, or even a pen kit. But, here's the deal; DOCUMENT YOUR PRODUCT IF YOU WANT TO SELL SAFELY AND SELL HERE! We love high spec lasers/modules/diodes. But we want to know WHAT we are getting.

You seem to be taking suggestions well, and I hope that you can make a venture of it, if you are responsible and ultimately dedicated to your customers' satisfaction and informed decision making.

Wow I knew that there were some shady laser pointer dealers out there but I had no idea a pen advertised at 5mW could reach levels up to 85mW!! Let me know if you guys know of any safety goggles/glasses company that would be willing to enter into a strategic alliance with a low output laser pointer startup. We would love to be able to advertise safety glasses on our site and social media mediums. Are there any specific specs you guys would like to see on the safety glasses themselves? Rolling with that question, besides LPMs and IR output is there any additional specs you guys would like to see on/added to the laser pointers??

HELL YEAH!

I'm really glad to see someone 5mW selling lasers in NewWish hosts again! Those hosts have a great reputation, and they're really becoming uncommon these days because people are hoarding them.

I remember my first Newwish-host laser I bought from DX. That shit owned. It was the only host that could withstand all 200mW of green + 150mW of IR burning power.

scumbagatheist- "you may have FDA trouble if you LPM them" are you referring to the chance that if I LPM them and they are way over 5mW? Or could there be some kind of backlash even if I clock them all in just below 5mW? We thought we were dedicated to customer satisfaction by getting rid of the defective ones and offering fast free shipping, but this new information definitely brings in a whole new meaning to customer service, so we will do the best we can to make these changes as quickly as possible.

To give a little background on who you guys are talking to I am Andy Richardson, co-Founder of LRL, and both me and my business partner attend the university of Utah. His name is Sam and he is currently working full time while pursuing his degree in Electronic Engineering. I am a Finance and Marketing major and sometimes with all the school work it gets hard to find time to put into the company. Any and all contributions, not money I am talking about knowledge, from the laser community is greatly appreciated. Lets build a laser pointer company together that can provide a great product, outstanding service, at low prices.
 
I mean if you LPM your lasers at >5mW you will have trouble with the FDA. You need things like key switches, proper labels stickers, etc.

It is your responsibility to learn the laws that govern your sales.
 
^^^not many people on here follow those laws since >5mW lasers sell almost on the daily. they just give buyers warnings of the danger, make sure safety glasses are owned and then send the laser
 
I was just making sure we weren't missing anything in the legal department, but that is where we have done most of the research. Any other comments anybody has feel free to speak up and let us know what you would like to see in the company. We will be doing our best to keep our lasers under 5mW and still warn the public of the danger of all types of lasers.
