I have lots of those minerals, and most of them don't react to long-wave UV / BluRay.

I wish I had a short-wave UV laser (instead of just a lamp).....

Beautiful collection BTW.

I hope to post some photos of mine soon, not just minerals, I also have some gems and powders that fluoresce very nicely, some of them are also phosphorescent and keep on glowing after the UV light source is gone.

As far as i know, this 375 nm is the more short existing, at least til now (and is still in study stage :p)


Edit: as diode, i mean ..... some gas unit, like mercury, can go deeper in UV range :D

Peanut butter glows in the dark for a couple seconds after hit with 405nm...

I just tested this and it doesn't work:

The laser used was a 355nm UV; if it doesn't fluoresce fabreeze, not much else will...

The colour you see is actually the paper fluorescing, the spackle pattern on the paper is the fabreeze...


EDIT: I just realized that this picture contradicts what I just said but I can assure you that you will not see that in person. My camera seems to have an affinity for UV...

Most US drivers licenses have "hidden" UV reactive graphics.

The photo was taken with BOTH long and short UV light from a 30W display lamp. It is a "stock" photo. I have most (maybe all) of them plus other UV reactive rocks/minerals, but have not lined them up like this. I also have a few different UV lights around here. 30W is also my brightest :cool:.

In my office/workshop, I am surrounded by UV reactive "targets" that I shine lights and lasers on regularly.

One of my coolest is quartz crystals with fluorapatite crystals that grew INSIDE them. The laser light penetrates enough to make the fluorapatite crystals glow bright orange inside the quartz crystals.

Passports, ID's & Credit Cards. They all have security features embedded within them. If you want to know where to look, tell me the type of passport / ID / CC. One of my job requirements is to check for bogus ID's and we use black lights to help as well as magnification loupes.

All the UV decor I have for the club nghts I put on..
which rolls nicely into the many different colours of UV Wool you can get! :)
