Laser weapons.

Should we delete threads thats start with using lasers for private weapons?

Basically this is my opinion on the issue. If you have a laser on you and you have a good opportunity to use it in a way which might save you from peril then go for it. It all depends on the situation and any threads trying to discuss it just turn into flamewars.

I'm more worried about people learning how, and using them for ill gain. Or even vengeance. Defense, sure, but not everyone has that view point. I see people asking side way questions all the time, looking for answers to questions they dont want to post. Hell, Steve from WL does it all the time.

No brain is the reason. You cant even get trolling right. Go back into your hole.

I agree there should be no talk of making weapons out of lasers in open forum, if you want to talk about that do it in PM's.
or go to a weapon forum and talk about it all you want !!!

Doesn't take a genius to point one a somebody's face  I think the use would come naturally to those with the intent.

Encouraging complete strangers to build their own 3b & 4 portables as cheaply as possible is more of an issue than just discussing the potential.

Sites like SamsFAQ tend to frown on use of these, though people around here (myself included) see it differently. We respect the knowledge at Sam's but ignore their foresight.

Almost like a bad case of selective hearing going on here.

I vote to ban the discussion on any thread regarding pointers over 1mW:pop:

Thats irrelevant. The science is the same no matter what diode/driver combination is. If they can learn to make a laser from a DVD drive, they use the same knowledge with a projector. Plus thats what we are here for. If you dont like it here feel free to leave.

I thought citizens of the USA had a constitutional right
to Bear Arms.... That means all arms not just guns..

We don't have that dilemma in Canada... we don't have
that right... but I agree that the opening of Threads that
want to discuss using Laser POINTERS to make weapons
should be curbed...

BTW T_J... what do you have against Canadians....

Jerry

i dont agree with people using them as weapons, but they should have the right to discuss it regardless of my opinion.

I equate a laser's destructive capability to a gun's. If that is so irresponsible, then ban me. :na:

edit-I have no problem chiding and beating laser safety into those people's heads, but censorship won't solve anything.

it's not about censorship... it's about us being proactive in the preservation of our hobby. just like any industry that sets strict standards before the government comes in. those that are proactive get hassled less.

@jerry... our constitution says we have the right. but all the amendments basically take it away.

@everybody elsed, this is a laser enthusiast forum not a weapons or self defense forum!!!

michael.

A good and much needed poll TJ. We don't want this forum to turn into a kipkay one.
