But seriously, I wonder what the plans are like and what do they use in the actual plan and where they'd take the diode from, as it looks like it's from the 1980s, before laser diodes were widely available.

This is assuming that the plans are actually plans, and judging by the >10000000000k colour temperature claim, I'd doubt it.

Well, about the 1 million K degrees, i can only say ROTFL ..... i've seen 18,000K lamps, and they looks white-violet, with a lot of UV component ..... i suppose one million K may look like an "empty" beam with cherenkov halo around ..... :p :crackup:
 
Cool plans for a uv diode laser. I'd buy one asap, but first I need to know where I can get deep UV laser diodes.

Information Unlimited is run by Rob Iannini. Hes got some cool stuff on his site but it's extremely overpriced, and hes kind of a prick. I talked to him on the phone about a few of his products and eventually he was like "are you going to buy it or not!?". Hes not very helpful and very pushy. The book is a cool read but honestly it was a waste of money. Almost all of his projects are specific to the products that he sells on his site. It's more of a "buy these parts and put it together like this" book rather than a "here is the theory and principles of the project so you know how to augment the circuit to fit your needs" book.

But in all seriousness.. I remember buying stuff from information unlimited back in the day. But looking through the site just now, it seems like mostly overpriced novelty gimmicks for the most part.
 
You won't see a million degrees Kelvin because of shift of color way in UV.

Sure you would. The spectral PEAK may be in the UV, but there's still plenty of light in the visible spectrum. You can see here that even though the spectral peak shifts towards blue with increasing temperature, the over-all intensity in IR for example still increases with temperature.

EDIT: i mean, an 1 million Kelvins degrees light, must be something like an undefined grey-blueish-violet color, that hurt the eyes more than that what it enlight the scene, and probably, due to the configuration and biochemical structure of the retina, it may have the effect to decrease the contrast, "blurring-out" or confusing the more fine details (opposite to the sodium "yellow" lights, that are used for increase the contrast of the scene) ..... who the hell want a lamp that "reduce" your sight capacity and cause so much problems to the sight ? :p :D

Center of the sun is 15million K btw. It black body radiates X-rays, not UV.
