Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

If that is his submission then he can make that his submission. If some is a builder to the degree that Jayrob is, most if not all of his lasers will be ones he offers. That shouldn't disqualify him.

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Are we hawking our wares on this thread now? Is that what we're doing?

Because I will UNLEASH SBA's new line of custom lasers on your asses!

Seriously...let's keep the plugs for our wares out of this thread. That's what the B/S/T forum is for.

Bad form indeed.

Bad form?

The thread title says to show the best laser that cost under $100 dollars in parts, and that's the best that I have come up with for that cost.

Simple as that.

That laser shown, has a link for people to see details of the build, but the thread is not even in the BST section or Pro Shop. It is in the Experiments and Modifications section.

Think about it. Any build that I show would be a custom build.

Are you saying that since I am a seller that I cannot show any of my builds???

Edit: Just saw your post wannaburnstuff...

Thanks for that! :thanks:

We never talked about whether multiple submissions were allowed...

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Bloompyle I am not the one that is hosting this contest but I just use common sense. Say I buy a $100 host for $20 does that seem fair to post for competition? Not to me. First because I can't show if I reall paied $20 or I am just bluffing to have a nicer laser for the competition.

Also people won't be reading this whole thread. When the voting time comes, since it will be a poll, a new thread might be opened with all the entries and people will vote on that, probably won't even think that a m140 diode probably won't hit the 2w with a $5 lens. But still...
Let the OP decide how to work this out and decide how it shall be done. I honestly will propose a less than $50 laser that will meet all the requirements.
You know it if you are cheating, we all know the real values of lasers, so if we post that we are using a $5 lens I hope you are using a 3 element cheap a$$ lens because a g2 would cost you half of the authorized value.

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Link to the thread you bought it from. Have the member you bought it from post here. Or use the honor system. I got 2 E2's for $40 each like many others did, and there's a whole thread about it. Am I not allowed to use them? When everyone was capable of doing the same? I don't think it's fair to limit us because we did someone anyone else could have easily done.

My opinion:
We need to rework the thread from the start... too much discussion and too many conflicts.

Since rules aren't clear I vote for a Veteran Builder/User an Expert that judges and evaluate if a laser is allowed to be in the competition or not.

Jayrob's post could be fair, if you consider that he made all the work to build the laser. But it can be conflictive in this sense:

Do builders build for free??? I don't see a custom made heatsink like that one used by jayrob cost $7....

So it should be considered at it's real value.

Jayrob how much would you honestly sale that laser for? $99? So be it.... it is allowed to be in the competition.
If on the other hand you would sell it for $150 because you consider that your work is worth something and you value your work.... than you are cheating and you couldn't submit your laser in this competition....

There are too many user submitted rules here. So now the resell price also comes into play? This needs more thought before we do this. Nobody is agreeing here. Redo.

Again... you got something because you were lucky to get it... it wasn't open to ANYONE to get 2 E2 hosts for $40 ... I was looking to get one and I couldn't because there were no more DOA hosts....
Can ANYONE buy a E2 host for $40? I don't think so.

I agree that this competition needs to be redone.... Rules have to be clear...

I didn't get DOA ones. Everyone had the chance, you were too late, for one reason or another. Going by that logic, not EVERYONE can get an M140 diode since stocks will run out. Your logic makes no sense, everyone could, some couldn't due to time, or stocks running out, but you DID have the opportunity. This is true. It was open to EVERYONE.

Prices on products change, lenses are different prices depending on who you go to, as are diodes, and drivers, and hosts, and heatsinks. You can get a heatsink from Eud for cheaper than Mrcrouse, just takes weeks to get anywhere from Croatia. If you get a driver or diode in a group buy, then you got it for cheaper. Do we pretend they paid more?

This is supposed to be fun :friend::gh: No :fightin:

The voters will decide...

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Why don't we put a judge like I proposed... let him decide if a laser is worth $100 or not...
As Lazerbeak sais ... this should be a fun competition... not a discussion and fight thread....

com'on we aren't getting a $1000 prize here... it is just for fun...

Let's be honest in our submisions and keep this thing rolling.

Gun had a great idea in making a competition, lets keep it working...

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

Then let's let the voting decide, and stop calling out each other for not having a fair host. If the voters think it's not fair, then it's not. Bam, problem solved, now move on.

If only I could figure out this polarity issue -.- Diodes shouldn't have just 2 pins..

Yeah honestly I thought from the start that the object was to try and get the best possible laser for the least spent...

And obviously, a builder will be the one that can pull that off.

But maybe I misunderstood the thread title from the get go??

Either way, I really don't need to try and win a prize.

Honestly, I just like that build, and thought it qualified for this rather interesting thread...

If it's 'best laser that you can buy', then that's a totally different thing. (I took it as 'best laser that you can make')

Re: Competition #1 - Best Laser under $100

I know the polarity of the diode, it's getting this diode to work with the case of the host. No case pin...might come down to soldering a pin to the case of the diode. I have a couple to spare if this doesn't work. They're fun little diodes that very few people build with surprisingly. Might have to result to a different host. Damn pens...
