is there any way you could assemble my driver for me on this one?  PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE?  I screwed up the last one, fried the driver, 2 bluray diodes, and my barrel caught on fire.. I don't know how, but it happened.  I'm terrible at reading diagrams and soldering stuff i guess?
haha! exaggeration i hope, if not i am truly sorry for laughing so intensely at your misery... on second thought, no i'm not  ;D[/quote]

No exaggeration.. The wiring was wrong, i spent 4 hours trying to get the stupid diodes to work, ripped the pins off one of the diodes, fried out the other one, and when i tried to use it the driver had a little gob of solder and it touched the inside of the barrel, shorting out, smoked a LOT and the board is black now.. oh, and where it touched the barrel got all black with soot. I cleaned the soot off and threw out the old driver, now I'm trying to find a place to buy an assembled driver and a couple more bluray diodes..

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

so are you saying you need replacement components? LOL

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Kenom,
Are these still available? If so, count me in for one. I'm awaiting payment for an item I've sold and I plan to use that money to purchase one of your barrels. I should have that money by friday.

Also, few questions:
I see that the lavadrive is an option.. What is the standard driver that comes with these? Is it assembled or unassembled? Is the rkcstr adjustable driver available?

And I also see that the diodes are press fit into these barrels just like an axiz module.. My question concerning that is, since these are made entirely of aluminum, how rigid is the opening for the press fit diode? ie, is the metal hard enough so that diodes could be pressed in and removed multiple times without the hole getting larger making them loose?

Thanks!

I believe these are made of 6061 aluminum. Any pressing and removal will eventually remove material from the pocket. Several cycles should be OK but don't make a habit of changing. If it gets loose, a little Arctic5 epoxy might do the trick. Good grounding can still be made through the case pin.

Mike is absolutely correct the aluminum is 6061.  so it can tolerate probably 5-10 diode removals before it starts to get loose.

The driver that comes stock with these barrels is a "groove" driver.  Essentially the same thing as the fusion drives but the layout has been changed and reverse polarity protection added.  They ARE UNASSEMBLED. Plain and simple I cannot afford to replace drivers taht have been setup incorrectly by myself and will leave the assembly up to the hobbiest.  I will have replacement drivers in the event of someone burning out the driver and needing to get a new one.  The rockstr drivers aren't much of an option as the two battery configurations that work for this barrel are the 18650 (3v) and a pair of cr123's (6v)

Gooeygus has reported that the barrels will take 3 cr2's so in that configuration the rockstr driver will work ok for a short while since the cr2's aren't that beefy.

Thanks for the answers Mike & Kenom.

Hmmm.. I would think that the rkcstr driver would work fine with two CR123's since they are 3v each, which is the same as CR2s. I have an open can laser with the rkcstr driver powered by 2 CR2s which worked out great. Either way, my hands aren't steady enough to solder the tiny components to a circuit board, so I'll probably order my own separate assembled driver from either drlava or rkcstr separately.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

For a red, my driver should work just fine on 6V (2x 3.0V lithium batteries).  If you're using a violet diode, the 3.6V (x2) rechargeable lithiums will work.

Agreed wholeheartedly ! :)

Good to hear.. In that case I'll be ordering another one of your adjustable drivers whenever the barrel gets here (or shortly before) as I'm already familiar with it and the first one I ordered worked great.

I am definitely saying that. heh.. But I need assembled ones, and I'm willing to pay a bit for them to be assembled. I think I can handle soldering the diode in, but the drivers are too f*ing small. I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars getting these damned bluray lasers to work, when i could just buy one already assembled for under 200, lol.

so anyway, how do i get some replacement components?

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Just paypal me some fundage. $5 to assemble and ship ya a new driver.

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

You can. Just add an extra $2

Re: Laser Barrels V2. GB. Second run. Kryton Groov

Here is what the driver for version 2 looks like if you didn't get the lava drive. Current has been increased on the bluray mode to incorporate the higher powered blurays.

Kenom, I sent it along with the funds for the encasing of the things2die4, cashiers check, BTW, the regular driver is fine I'll try a build for high output PHR803T, what batteries are best?
