He probably bought it from someone on here... probably under a pseudonym. Even if not, I think it's great that members on here build and sell some amazing lasers.

If I was the maker of the laser (we know Eghemus made the host) I'd be kind of annoyed though.

I think it's hilarious that he calls it a purple laser at the same exact time he clicks it on to show that it's actually blue.

He probably thinks/thought that all high power lasers are 405, hence purple. 405's did precede the 445s.

As I have said again and again, in my first one or two videos I did back in 2006, I did not mention laser goggles or laser dangers. You can't just change the audio on older clips on YouTube so I have added annotations and infornmation in the description section about laser safety.

In ALL of my most recent videos, I specifically mention in the voice-over about laser safety, show laser goggles and also include information about laser safety in the description of the videos.

Unfortunately, regardless of what I do with lasers, people on this forum will bash me because of my past mistakes. This is really the only place where people get all worked up over what I have done in my laser projects. Even in the case of a video that really has nothing to do with lasers, which was the original basis of this thread, like when I said my laser is purple when it is blue. Does anyone really think that when I acquired that laser, I didn't know what wavelength it was? Seriously? I felt like saying purple. 99.9% of the viewers don't know or even care if it's blue, blu, purple, violet etc...It's pretty much the extreme laser enthusiasts that get worked up over it.

In this recent video you click on a high powered laser not once but twice. At that point you NEVER say anything about it being dangerous, but do label it the wrong color.

Also aside from those "spy" goggles, where were your laser goggles exactly? If they are there I apologize for the mistake, I can't watch the video from work, but I'll make sure to review it. Something tells me I won't see any LASER goggles.

As far as the wrong color is concerned... To me it just kills your credibility. I mean if I go to my friends and claim that a blue laser (which is obviously blue) is green they'd ask me for what I'm smoking.

Um... Perhaps we are being too hard on the guy. If you used high-powered lasers without safety glasses often enough, you may have a problem distinguishing between purple and blue yourselves.

I've read that one of the signs of blue laser damage is the inability to recognize the color blue, not sure if that's true or not.

Every time I see a Kipkay video, I think to myself "I wonder how many people did this before he did, but didn't get recognized for it because they aren't well known..." And yes, I'm aware the answer is at least 1 in every single tutorial.

I was just to show his most well known video "Laser flashlight hack" and he DID before showing the results of the laser, add some 5 seconds pause in the video with quite clear warning.

Perhaps I was wrong. Perhaps he did start giving a damn.

The videos do serve a good purpose, they direct a lot of newbies to this forum. I got here looking for laser reviews, not youtube though.

That video is NOT a laser video. It's about luggage security! The "lost laser" portion was part of the 'storyline'. Yea I clicked it twice, so what? I would dare to say that the majority of "famous" laser hobbyists here never say anything about safety or show them wearing goggles in their videos, yet due to my YouTube success I take the brunt of criticism? Hypocrisy?

I was wearing them. Again, this is NOT a video about lasers. Does every video, TV, commercial or movie where there are cars show the person buckling up and explaining how important using seatbelts are? Far more people are killed or maimed everyday for not wearing seatbelts then people blinded by lasers.

I agree that would be questionable since blue and green are far different to the human eye.

My favorite one is ROG's video of his flip top lighter where he actually burns himself and never mentions safety or whether or not he was wearing goggles.

I can go on and on but I think you get the point. No one has to like me, watch my videos or give me a second thought.

I have added warnings to my videos based on the recommendations here. If anyone here decides to make a video, I will never tell them how to produce it, what to say or not say. They are the creators of their content and have the right to do as they wish.

Put simply, the reason we get after you is because you have such a huge audience - 99% of whom are not enthusiasts who are well-versed in laser safety. Those videos you referenced have an audience primarily composed of enthusiasts - since they're circulated here.

You do raise a good point with styropyro, but he does have fewer viewers than you (last I checked?) and has more of a laser enthusiast following.

Okay, take this example. Car companies that make commercials showing cars drifting around salt flats always tell people to not attempt it. Those same videos made by car enthusiasts probably don't have those warnings because they are largely circulated on car enthusiast forums.

Just my opinion; make of it what you will.

I was surprised that you added that part of the video.

Still, I proceeded to point out some of numerous flaws in your design of Maglite laser and Laser lighter.
I still can't get over the fact that you were *this* close to giving your son a disability check. I mean, that's skipping right past the obvious fact that 100mW of 405nm laser power can light a cigarette if the celestial alligment was right that day and Chuck Norris allowed it.

And the fact that batteries last aproximately 4 seconds. And that everything is held by hot glue. And that doing that your way will cost around what, $100?

But alright.

Do yourself a favour. In every future video including burning lasers, mention that these are not toys and are indeed very dangerous. I'm not rushing for any specific mentions of goggles here, I mean common sense is the first line of safety here.

Also, don't "dumb down" things so every youtube moron out there goes saying "Wow I can do that too and shoot it in people on the street". Have it intentionally complicated. Over-complicate it if needed. People who know their stuff and are capable of making lasers on their own will figure it out. Dumb people will not.

Don't go around making money of other people's stupidity. It's just degrading, for yourself.

I appreciate your comments! Keep in mind the Laser Flashlight Hack was the very first laser video I ever did! My thought was that if anyone could pull that project off, from a video that is less than 2 minutes long, they would have the mental ability to understand the dangers of lasers. You know as well as I do that extracting a laser diode from a DVD drive is no easy task and certainly not one that a child could accomplish. I have learned alot since that video.
