Kipkay 2W ?

$3 Focal Price glasses all the way!
And I can say that in my 6+ months of laser handling, while wearing safety glasses or not, I've never actually accidentally pointed a laser towards my eye, nor has the reflection got in direct contact with my eye. You have to be an idiot to actually accidentally point it at your eyes, because you shouldn't even be pointing a laser towards you anyway. Attempting to light a cigarette so close to your face without goggles is pretty stupid, and then even worse, showing it to millions of viewers who don't have a clue about laser safety.
What makes it worse is that as Kipkay is showing a laser being pointed at his son's face, who isn't wearing goggles and at that point in the video he says "As with any laser, never point it at yourself or any living thing". It's great that he's mentioning that, but seriously? While pointing it at someone's face?

The whole point of safety goggles is to guard against accidents. An accident is by definition not something that is expected.

Of course lasers are no more dangerous than anything else. I mean every adult I know owns a car... that is A LOT more dangerous than a laser IMO.

The problem with Kip's approach is that he downplays the safety issue. The biggest safety issue with higher power lasers is the reflection from surfaces people don't normally consider reflective.... such as white walls, desks (especially with glossy surface) than there are lamps, bottles, dishes, I mean the list of common place objects in a house that reflect gets long VERY fast.

Also a lot of people watching those videos think "hmm, cool, I build this thing and I can burn stuff" they don't consider that reflection from that close up, from say a match head... can do a lot of damage.

Personally I'm more afraid of reflections from non traditional surfaces than mirrors. Would you stare at a dot from a 1W+ laser from 3 feet? How about 5 feet? Not a good idea.

For 99.99% of situations laser goggles are not needed... it's that .01 that worries me. To an informed person... it's your choice... but to some teenager that builds one of those lasers... it's a disaster in the making.

You mean the ones they used to be $8 ? or? could you link the specific goggles? :D

@ Moh....
I really don't care if you wear Laser Safety glasses or not... They
are not my eyes....

What pi$$es me off with KipKay... is the fact that he is endorsing
the non-use of Laser Safety glasses as a safe way to handle Lasers
by any Non Laser Educated noob with $$$ in his hand...

I don't always wear safety glasses when I know I'm in a safe
controlled environment...

Nice Troll.... you almost got me...:eg:

Lol never expect you are not wearing glasses.

I wear glasses when I watch TV.... Drive my car or Harley...
or need to see something far away....

I wear Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses when I feel I am in danger of
a stray reflection in an unsafe and uncontrolled environment....

One +rep for you, my friend. That is the most mature view expressed in this thread.

Yeah, it's your eyes and your choice to wear goggs or not. But, it is also your fate to suffer the costs of your choices.

Do the rest of you really think the insults do anything but bring you down to kipkay's level?

Get mad at me if you like, I don't really care. I think that it is a waste of time and effort trying to convince Kay of anything.

+1 to You! :na:

@123splat - Thanks!

Repped back:D I'm glad to see common sense prevail on this forum.

so where did you get it?

He probably bought it from someone on here... probably under a pseudonym. Even if not, I think it's great that members on here build and sell some amazing lasers.

If I was the maker of the laser (we know Eghemus made the host) I'd be kind of annoyed though.

I think it's hilarious that he calls it a purple laser at the same exact time he clicks it on to show that it's actually blue.

He probably thinks/thought that all high power lasers are 405, hence purple. 405's did precede the 445s.

Few things I wanted to say about Kipkay - others already summed it up.

Did anyone notice that first he calls 405nm lasers blue then starts calling 445nm purple?
And apparently as he joined LPF he already managed to get 9 -reps in two days, new record?

Seriously guys, aren't we actually getting immature by keeping insulting him - let's talk more civilized.

Also, I saw some EBay sellers as marking low power 405nm diodes (20mW and less) as "KipKay Project suitable".

Lastly I would like to point out that I actually got interested in lasers because of one of his videos.

But seriously Kipkay, you need to warn people more about safety, these things can be dangerous!
eye%20damage01.jpg

That's a retina hemorrhage due to laser hit. Do you really want to be responsible for that?

Kip you say you get your info this forum, and its a wealth of info, but thats BS. If you actually took the time to read the forum you'd know your laser was blue, and that we promote goggles everywhere we can. So what have you really learned?

You're full of crap, promote bad laser safety, and steal other peoples ideas. You always have done this, and why you're still a loser. But your ego will never let you believe it.

Whats so freaking hard to throw in some laser goggles in your case along with your other two lasers? You're really just a moron in disguise of someone who thinks they know what they are talking about. And we all know it.
