what about this then:

use a very powerful spotlight or a powerful xenon bult, filter a specific wavelength, say, infra red of whatever nm, then use a wavelength doubler or whatever they are called, to get something like blu ray light. then collimate this. im unsure how much power you will get though, im unsure whether you will need to filter a single specific wavelength or a range of them, lets say 800-850nm, with the end result being 400-425 nm. or something like that. with just a few small components and a xenon flashlight, this could be a portable beam, possibly very powerful, or weak as piss, cos im just theorizing from stuff ive heard.

The truth is that if it were that easy to make powerful lasers, we would have done so by now.

Why not just filter out 405 if that's what you're going for  :-?

White light has all the primary colors. You may not get 'exactly 405' without a super expensive filter, but you could get a spectrum of light in that range. No need to get infrared and then double. And doubling this way would never work

And it still, in no shape or form would even be close to being a laser. Monochromatic [ch8800] laser

It'd be a very very small flashlight basically... focused one @ that. You could do somewhat of the same thing with the sun :D


I have to clear this one up too...

There are lasers which emit on several wavelengths covering all the primary colors. Their beams are white and the colors don't separate without going through a diffraction grating or something.

All light travels at the speed of light (hence the name) regardless of color. (this applies to light in a vacuum... if you want to get really really picky, wikipedia says that there are very very very very very very very very very minute differences when not in a vacuum. Here's a quote: "Theory suggests that in an ideal vacuum all light travels at the same speed – regardless of the light's color, brightness, direction, or passage of time. This applies not only to visible light, but to any other similar radiation - radio waves, infrared and ultraviolet light, X-rays, and gamma rays... ...laboratory measurements show that light of different colors travels at the same speed to within one part in 10^14. Other experiments show the variations with time are less than two parts in 10^16/year, both for microwaves and visible light.)

I wouldn't buy a WL torch. It's just way too expensive. All you need is a Maglite reflector, a 50+ watt halogen bulb, and about 13V in batteries. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge4NtlMYGBY.

He used an expensive RC battery, but you could just as easily do it with a 3D Maglite (using 14500's in D sized adapters).
 
For halogen burning just use an elliptical reflector from car headlight projector. It will focus the light in a small area few inches away from the reflector.

You never travel with the speed over light speed
You never freeze anything below -273 degrees C
You never find a dinnosaur alive
You never breath in the vacuum
You never create anything like laser beam from a halogen spotlight.

You never travel with the speed over light speed
You never freeze anything below -273 degrees C
You never find a dinnosaur alive
You never breath in the vacuum

did you read the whole thread. it can be LIKE a laser. it can't be a laser. Like a laser, bright, powerful, burner, beam.
not a laser, not coherent light.
 
Actually, before lasers, the way to create coherent light was to take a powerful monochromatic light source (the emission line of some element, for example) and then put a screen in front of it with a very tiny hole. The light that came out of that hole was coherent, but also greatly attenuated and divergent.

see i like the thought put into this but im pretty sure u can breathe in a vacuum... you will be breathing in nothing however but still breathing non the less
 
As your bodily fluids boil then you may be able to breathe but breathing will be the least on your mind.

Anyone thinking of reviving you will give up straight away.

How would you feel if someone tried to revive you after 6 1/2 months of thread death?

hmm did you know that laser is an acronym?? light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation

I dont think i would feel them reviving me if, Im dead, and/or they give up lol
