I'm new, but i had a great idea dealing with 445 goggles

You guys have made some very good points, and though i still have my ambitions to make home built glasses robust enough for 1 watt or more, im going to get the focal price glasses or maybe the eagles glasses. Also Ive heard that yellow safety goggles you get at the gun store or hardware store work, i may go get a pair of those and see.

I will still make these homemade goggles though, just because i want to see if it will work first hand. :san:

I would be very surprised if any glasses not intended as laser safety glasses would work.

I definately encourage experimenting, but please try it while wearing good safety eyewear. For plastic based eyewear try to test plastics that burns instead of melt. If they melt, the filtering will be lowered. If they burn, it develops a black spot and no light gets transmitted.

Note that unless you can choose the composition of your plastic, your filtering properties will be less than optimal, just as the maximum power it can take 10 seconds longs.

You'd also need to prove consistency in your fabrication proces, you need to be able to trust the eyewear you make by the results of the destruction of others. Things like OD's can be nondestructively measured, but that alone doesn't make laser safety eyewear.

Ya, I saw a picture of the goggle type you have in that picture on another site and had been trying to find it for awhile. Thanks!

Just wanted to correct some terminology. The correct expression is: "I have "lurked" on the forum." Trolls are not allowed. :)

I figure if I'm spending $100s in lasers, that ~$80 to cover all the colors I like was a no-brainer. Its nice to have no fear burning something with a >1W laser inches from my face.

Only thing else I could ask for is red as well but then you might not be able to see out of the goggles lol

They miss the Reds and IR, but do great on the short end of the spectrum. If You had glasses to cover the entire visible spectrum You would be legally blind while wearing them

Such a creative experiment! As you said some test is neccessary for your glasses, for the most important thing when using a high power laser is to protect your eyes. And expect your result of the test, wish everything will be Ok. Take care please!
