Hey guys, you might remember this thread....
http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/pix-sterling-silver-445-a-63968.html

well 2 days ago i accidentally left it in my shorts pockets and ran it through the washer and dryer with battery in.... welli took the battery out let it sit and last night took it apart to look for damage or disconnected wires. There was no visible damage so i put a fresh battery in and fired it up. BOOM!!! it works.:beer:

The point of the story is that if you hear or see something out of the ordinary, check it out..

when i started my my dryer cycle i heard banging and thumping in the dryer but said F it. But the laser gods were kind to me last night!!!

Thanks for reading
Michael.

Lucky boy...
If possible I would still see if the Driver and connections
are dry and clean without corrosion...

Was it soft and lemony fresh?

Actually, how far did you disassemble it? Lenses? How long did you let it dry?

I know this is going to happen, so I thought I would ask ahead of time.

Wow, you are a lucky man indeed! I guess static cling wasn't too much of an issue, or else it would have killed your diode. ( Must have used a good bounce sheet! )

@ lasersbee, it dried through a whole dryer cycle and an additional 48 hrs.

every body else, i disassembled it all the way down. no signs of corrosion or weakend solder joints. but only time will tell if the

@ bluefan, you would be correct, i was unsucessful in cleaning the beam profile =p

i think what might have helped was that my dryer has a steam cycle. and it steamed off anything that could have left any conductive deposits. (theory)

I cant believe it worked man !
Your are very lucky ! Go buy a lottary ticket !

Wow, nice luck!
Do yo think its ... damn i forgot that word.... it works under water?

I've sent many electronic devices through the washing machine, they all survived. Just wash them off with clean water, and put them in a bowl of rice. :D

Have yet to send a laser through the washing machine though ;)

That's a pretty damn lucky laser.

I washed a cell phone once... it didn't survive:(

Also washed a flashlight... apparently when surefire says waterproof... they mean it.

On another occasion a small remote also survived... stuck it in a bag of white rice for 3 days.

Not unusual at all, this is how I generally wash all of my lasers. I do try and stay away from bleach though, or at least use the color safe kind, normal bleach tends to fade the beams and wash out the colors (could end up with an ugly white laser). OH and don't forget, DO NOT mix different colored lasers in the wash! I washed my 445 and 660 together and now I have two 405s! :cryyy:

Thats pretty lucky chip, anything electronic that i've washed has never come out working...

better be praising some laser gods for sure

Is your laser beam brighter and cleaner than if it was cleaned by other leading washing brands :D No really though your lucky, I left mine out overnight in the rain - ruined and had to throw the pointer away
