Hey guys, I finally have my Stridast sterling silver host built.

445nm diode
microboost (not sure what it is set at, my meter was on the fritz)
standard aixiz acrylic lens (i just received my ar coated lens but havent tested it yet)
Trustfire 10440 battery.
on/off tail clicky rated for 3 amps.

On my Laserbee 2.5watt lpm it is putting out 447mw. with a fully charged battery. also at this power it can light ciggs.

this is a pure sterlling silver host made by member stridast. I think there are only 2 of these out there. I actually sent him my own silver and he just charged me labor. the gem is a blue tourmaline from him that he got from daguin ... so with no further adieu i present to you the beat stick (corny name but a TSA agent called it that when he xrayed my bag a couple weeks ago lol.)

That's beautiful! But why didn't you make it much higher powered? With a heatsink that is quite literally solid silver, I am sure it could handle high power.

Further, you shoulda gone more out there with it :p Made the clicky button a freakin' gem! Haha.

Nonetheless, AWESOME! +1.

thank you for the compliment. but it is limited in power becuase it can only fit 1- 10440. but it's still a beast. i get 20 minutes of run time too. so i carry it and an extra batt.

Well done! Too bad the cost of everything is skyrocketing and the doesn't exclude silver in any way. Is there any chance we would get a price range on this bad boy? :D

Anyway I'll admit it I am jealous lol I'd love to have one of these, a sandblasted Ehgemus host, and a nice Titanium JetLasers unit :p If only I had the money... Oh well lol

I do wonder though what is the difference if any between Pure silver and pure sterling silver???

All the best to you!

The difference is sterling is an alloy of silver. For most applications silver is much to soft to apply in any structual applications IE. silverware, jewelry. It is usually a mixture of silver and copper.

Very nice Chip!!! I like the bag its sitting on also :D

^^^ thank you for the compliment!! and me likes me crown royal and diet coke lol.

@ jolly, the silver actuallly didn't cost me anything, i salvaged it from old used lighting contactors. If i had to buy 4 oz of silver in todays market it would cost about $120usd. and 55 for Ryans labor. and you can calculate the rest of the internals cost.

Ah it's nice to see that you have got it up and are happy with it :D

To answer a few questions.

The price range kind of depends on the cost of silver at the moment. This is a heavily traded commodity. but you can look up the current spot prices http://www.kitcosilver.com/charts.html A simple 10440 host like this takes up over 2 1/2 ounces of silver once finished. This doesn't include silver that is ground away in the finishing process. (most of which does eventually make it to a refinery,) A larger host would take up substantially more silver. I do these mostly as a hobby and for fun, not really to make a lot of money. As such I am selling rather close to my costs. If you, or anyone else is interested in one, I can put one together, just pm me for a quote based on current prices. Just keep in mind prices change.

To put things in perspective, when I was starting making these hosts last year, the price of silver was around $24 an ounce. In april the price of silver peaked at $48 an ounce. So the price of the silver doubled in less then 6 months. As of right now, it's $35.75 an ounce. So it has come down from 48, but is still considerably higher then the $24.

As for sterling silver. Sterling silver is any alloy of silver that contains 92.5% silver. The other 7.5% can by any metal actually, but copper is usually the primary metal added to harden it. Fine silver (99.9% pure) is much softer then sterling.

I've got a few other designs on my hosts that are in a state of being close to casting ready, but not yet cast. I will provide more info on some of these later. (Time to head in to work now)
