Hurricane Irene is HERE! :o

The news is reporting that Staten Island, Queens, and Long Island are without power

Peace,
dave

Well, since we dont get any earthquakes or hurricanes/tornado's over here in sydney

All I can do is wish you luck :)

Nah, you guys just have spiders with venom potent enough to kill 100 men per drop. :p

A few customers are without power, yes. Well, Long Island loses power pretty much any storm they get (The LIPA [Long Island Power Authority] doesn't trim the trees near their power lines, so when ever it gets windy, the trees knock out power lines).

Even still, lost of power sucks, but it's a major inconvenience at best. Weather is very cool here right now, so it's not even like we're suffering in sweltering heat with no AC.

Yeah. Texted back and forth with my parents a few times today; they're in Richmond getting hit really hard. lazerman121 and his family are also getting hit really hard.

I haven't seen anything in Blacksburg yet.

Radar: Intellicast - Current Radar in Roanoke, Virginia

Richmond is RIC.
Blacksburg is about an hour west of the "ROA" marker.

LOL, Well, I guess thats true :tinfoil:

We also have snakes...

I actually woke up one day and as soon as I looked at the ceiling (where your ususally facing when you wake up) I saw a spider about the size of my outstretched hand (I have fairly big hands) right ontop of me.... Scared the crap out of me, lol

Yeah, I'd have gotten scared too, and probably screamed like a little bitch :(

lol, if only the pest control guy had come a few days earlier...

Totally missed us, thankfully. Some rain, and high winds at times but no damage. Strange though, about 10 miles West of us got hammered. Trees down, flooding, power loss, and a lot of wind damage. I was going to go to the beach, but I check a few web cams there and it was not bad.

I dont think they blew it out of proportion. People had died, and there was epic damage. They have to make sure people were taking it seriously, and to be prepared.

I read a news article on it the other day, and it really did sound to me like they blew it out of proportion a bit. I mean, they did exactly the same thing here when Yasi was approaching (Understandably, as it was an extremely powerful cat 5 system (And hit land as a cat 5 too)).

Irene was decently sized, but not to the point where it sounds like there's an apocalypse happening over there :p

Although, I do find it interesting that 14 people (I think?) were killed by Irene, and only 1 by Yasi (Which wasn't even directly related to the cyclone, but carbon monoxide poisoning.) Then again, I don't know the condition of housing etc in the US :)

Ironically I got injured by installing steel hurricane/earthquake braces in older buildings in Boston.

Generally the houses are built very well. It was the falling trees, flooding, and flying debris that caused the most damage. I dont think many houses would stand up to a 40' hardwood tree falling on it.

Its so hard to even imagine losing everything in the blink of a eye
makes you thankful for what you have

That was a storm!

Im pretty lucky...Lost electricity for a day and some clean-up. A few towns over in North NJ they were evacuating as late as yesterday due to flooding...

just got power back 5 hours ago.
We were out for 8 days.
