How do laser accidents happen. Real accident video.

While I was making the review about the Evolution Pro I pressed the button accidentally and the laser went directly to my right eye. I was of course wearing the safety goggles and nothing happened to me, but this is just an example that accidents do occur.

Green laser goggles are 7$ on focalprice and they just saved my eye, so get ones!

Those goggles at focal price, they say that they protect the eye from wavelengths 400nm to 532nm. In your experience how well do the goggles work for 405nm beams?
 
Now, the question is: why did you look down the aperture in the first place? :D

I really wasn't intending to look at anything, I was just moving it randomly in front of the camera :S

This googgles block green extremely well, as I said after the direct hit I didn't even see lights around like when you look at a light bulb. For bluray I have to say it won't filter it as a certified 405nm goggles would, but I'm sure the power from a phr after them is under 5mW, so I'm really not worried about it.

that would be my question as well. even if you wear goggles it still not good to point the light emitting side anywhere near your face.

its always better to be safe than sorry in my book..
 
Just wondering but what was that popping sound when you were pulling the laser away in the last 2 seconds? did your eye explode ? : )
 
I did not intend to power it up, I accidentally pressed the button. I already said in my review the button is very very sensitive, it's easy to press it by accident!

i think it's my leg hit something. You suddenly see the world goes from red to green, no fun xD
 
Man I could see you holding a gun with the finger on the trigger and "accidentally" look down the barrel... oops.

Lesson learned, keep fingers off the button.
 
As I said I didn't even notice my fingers were near the button lol.

The main problem is that I was so used to the rayfoss button which is "hard", and this one is extremely soft. I didn't even consider pressing the button by accident could be possible xD

Haha oops. Bet you won't be making that mistake twice. :p

Btw you recommended some good green goggles, do you have any recommendations for purple and red as well? I'd like to have all my bases covered. :D

HIMNL9 ran a test on these goggles here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/cheap-anti-green-goggles-focalprice-o-like-43109.html

A 177mw blu-ray was dropped to 0.7mw after the goggles. Similarly a 149.1mw green was reduced 0.4mw. So i'd say they work pretty well for both wavelengths. I ordered a pair a few weeks ago, hopefully they'll be arriving soon.

Sweet! I appreciate the info, I'll be ordering these ASAP now. Do you have any recommendations for red goggles?
