Feebay has turned into a rat trap for sellers, starting with the insane policy that sellers can only leave + for buyers ,,, As if there is no such thing as a scamming buyer !
I heard about the fund hold back thing, as I understand it here in the USA, it is only for certain categories, never experienced it myself. I have all 4.9's, don't know how I'd be affected if that dropped.
Buyers are now emboldened to treat sellers like crap, since ebay/paypal pretty much automatically takes their side in any dispute.
I sold an American Silver Eagle last week, ended up it sold for $39 and $2.50 shipping.
I have sold lots of these, I start them all at .99, they always make it up to spot or more.
So about 3 minutes after the auction ended, the winning bidder emails me and says hey, why are you charging so much for shipping ?
I see other sellers here charging $1 or $2 at the most, how come you are almost double of that ?
Instant red flags, I knew right away that no matter what I did or said, there would be no pleasing this guy, if in fact he wasn't just an outright crook.
I wrote back and said, first of all, the time to inquire about shipping is before you place a bid. Secondly, $2.50 is far from unreasonable, in fact with tracking, it cost me more than that to ship. I have no desire for any business with you, and you can consider this transaction cancelled.
I sent him a cancel transaction form, which he declined. Ebay said, ship the item. The guy paypal"ed me the $$, but there is no way in hell I'm sending it. He'd file a "not as described" dispute, ebay would put the funds on hold until he sent it back and I refunded. He would most likely send me back a round hunk of wood with tracking, and I'd be out a silver dollar with no recourse whatsoever.
So I'm just waiting for him to file a "not received" dispute, in which case I'll accept it and refund. He'll leave me a neg, and that will be that. I can deal with a neg, I cannot deal with $40 in silver stolen from me.
But this whole scenario is made possible only because buyers have no fear, they can act as childish and demanding as they want, and sellers can't do anything about it.
