Got The Bench Basics. What Do I Need Now?

HF just opened here, so they are doing that whole "Stay open 24 hours a day and sell everything at a loss until the local shops are run out of business" strategy ..

I never did buy it .. but seeing it there.. with such a low price tag .. almost convinced me

It is a horrible business model for small businesses. Years ago, a wholesaler I'm familiar with lost 50% of their jobber business when Price Club/Costco first opened.

Why doesn't someone that has a scope does a tutorial on how to use a scope in laser building? That would answer many questions. I still don't have a scope so I can't really say if it's a good thing to purchase or not, but I would love to see how it can be used.

You don't need it until you need to determine whether signals are switching in the way you predict. For example, you might want to see if your driver has much ripple, or how your circuit responds to signal changes. You probably won't need it if you're just soldering up stuff for hand-helds or something. I don't use mine all that often, but it's helpful when you do need something like that.

at home i have an ooooold HP dual channel 100MHz scope.

Those digital HPs with the green CRTs? I love those. Such nice and fast displays compared to the LCD ones. I only lament that they're a pain to get data off of if not always connected to a computer's serial port.

Lovely to lose an acid that is anesthetizing. It could be burning away your foot and you wouldn't even feel it!

NEVER EVER use acid or acid flux on Electronic or electrical
connections. After some time your connections will corrode
unless perfectly and completely cleaned off.

ONLY use rosin type fluxes. You can get some from
Flaminpyro or any electronics suppliers.

connections. After some time your connections will corrode
unless perfectly and completely cleaned off.

ONLY use rosin type fluxes. You can get some from
Flaminpyro or any electronics suppliers.

Yeah, sounds about right. I thought it would be useful for detecting voltage spikes but I guess that could be done with a DMM. I'm making a joule thief to up the voltage for a small host laser.

I've been going through some tutorials. They're cool though

Electronic and plumbing soldering materials (flux, solders) don't mix!
