Got a new Laserglow Aquarius-6 : and its TEM01 .. Is that right?

This is why it's always worth talking to companies about issues you might have, especially well renowned companies...

Will get beamshots as soon as I'm better at doing it. :) The Orion came in at 352.8 nominal avg.

Another question for folks... Any idea if any rechargeable CR123A's would be OK to use in the Aquarius Pro? (I realize the normal AQ uses CR2's, the Pro does use 123As, but does suck them down pretty quick.)

CR123A's are 3.0v, I have some "3.0v 1000mah" 17335 Li-Ion cells which *will* fit in the laser and *will* power it on; I do have a 3.0v (not 3.7v) charger for them, but from what I understasnd is, these charge to 3.2v, not 3.0v.

The last thing I want to do is overvolt this laser.

So should the 3.0v "rechargeable 123A's" at 3.2v be safe in this laser? I also have some "17340"s, rated at 3.2v, LiFePO4.

-- I presume the standard 3.6v RCR123A's (which I believe charge to 4.3v) - are certainly a no-go in this thing. (Not even going to chance it.)

They are 3.2V at full charge. I've got both 3V primaries and 3V Li-ion rechargables and they both are 3.2V brand new or at full charge.

I think this happends when the cristal is overheat. Sometimes we can see it happen in the overdrive green laser. And i think laserglow will tell you they don't suggest to run your laser this long.

Check the last date before you post next time, and his question has already been answered anyway.

This is old, as covered, but since it's up...

There is no rule that says a 473nm laser must be pulsed, and the fact that the previous one was might have actually been a contributing factor to it's instability. DPSS lasers do not respond well to being pulsed as a general rule.

Come again? This wasn't my understanding, as nonlinear optics increase in efficiency as peak power increases, something like the square of the intensity, so pulsing actually improves performance of the nonlinear crystal.

What are we missing in the translation here?

-----------------------

Oh, and my CNI 473nm is a nice TEM-00 beam all the time, I've never seen it change. However, on a cold morning, it won't even lase until I warm it up in my hands for a few minutes. It doesn't like the cold at all.

I guess I should have said "modulated" rather than "pulsed" because those drivers are actually modulating the diode to help with temperature control. These 473nm portables and pointers are not actually pulsed lasers in the strictest sense of the word (no giant pulse formation here, just the diode being turned on and off). I can tell you with certainty that DPSS lasers do not respond well to modulation.. I was just sticking to the original parlance, apologies for the inaccuracy.

In my experience with ALL of my CNI 473nm blues (and these are lab-style not portable) they tend to start of at TEM01 when they're cold and work their way into TEM00 as they warm up. All of mine do that, so I don't think it's a defect.. I would expect portables to perform far worse in general. IMO portable 473nm lasers are a bad idea due to the temp. sensitivity of LBO. Nice that you have one that works well!

Well, I know this thread has been necro'd - but.. I would say that maybe, the specs on the AqPro (PGL-III-A) have changed. The one I have, it is absolutely, positively, NOT pulsed. It is CW. (as mentioned before)

It's also peaking around 80mW, and while originally averaged around 37, is now averaging more like 55mW.

It's not as stable as my PGL-III-C-473. but has much tighter divergence, and almost never goes tem01.

But, on warmup, yes, both are very unstable.
